The new tour cast is solid. The new Tom and Crow eerily slide into how you expect them to sound/act.
Fine with Emily being the new host. A female host is a pretty good idea in terms of balance because it's so clearly differentiated from the two male robot voices.
You know, when the first season of the reboot came out I was stunned by the newness at first. Now I'm chill. New hosts? Sure. New robot voices? Sure. New robots? Why the he'll not? Bring it on!

I recently downloaded the Pluto TV app on my Smart TV to watch Shout Factory's new channel dedicated to Japanese superheroes, but in the last couple of weeks I find myself just leaving it on mst3k Channel! It's always great to have on in the background, and I enjoy the new bumpers made with the tour cast.
They do tend to rerun the same shorts over and over again as filler between the episodes, so I feel I've seen "What to do on a Date" like 20 times in oh so many weeks.

This is very cool. In addition to a MST3K set of these titles I'd also get a Blu-ray of It Conquered the World if offered. I have a lot of affection for that flick!

I had no idea this was happening. Imagine my surprise a few moments ago when sleep deprived me was channel surfing and suddenly the MST3K version of The Crawling Eye is on!

It's a better release date, so I hope for the best. I'm assuming it's the last one of these Hollywood Godzilla movies, or at least the last in this cycle so I'm less concerned about weather the movie performs well financially. I disliked the previous one, so the only thing I hope for is that the movie is good.
Honestly, as a kaiju fan it's only one sliver of the stuff I'm anticipating. Next year we'll probably be getting upwards of a dozen Ultraman series on Blu-ray - and American Ultraman comic books from Marvel - aaaaaand we've got the Shin Ultraman movie coming in 2021. On top of that there will be the Arrow Gamera Blu-ray set, and since Gamera's rights holders are far less persnickety with which versions can be included I think we are looking at a set that will have far less limitations then Criterion's Godzilla set.

I'm happy that Netflix carried the show for two seasons, but it was obvious that the way people watch mst3k was different from the kind of metrics that Netflix looks for in their shows. This is, after all, a company that will cancel even popular shows if they don't think new seasons of it are inspiring more subscribers.
I think Jonah has the right idea: a niche streamer like Shudder would be a better fit. Sure, they don't have pockets as deep as Netflix and that would mean things like shorter seasons, but as a venue designed for cult favorites there the show could be a star in the same vein as their revival of Joe Bob Brigg's horror hosting.

^ Arrow is a terrific company. I'd be very happy for any kaiju release from them.

Criterion Godzilla set purchased and put away for Christmas, currently watching and enjoying my Ultra Q and Ultraman sets (the first of dozens of upcoming Ultra sets), a small company called SRS is acquiring micro-budget kaiju indies for US distribution... I am a very happy fan right now.
Rumor has it that Gamera may have a new hone video licensor, too.

I'd be fine with changing the name back to Gypsum. The name was never meant to offend anyone, so if it does and the criticism is legitimate than its actively distracting from the intended spirit of the thing.
Keeping things going just for tradition's sake is stupid but it's easy to fall into and I have to remind myself not to fall into that trap.

^ You can also (apparently) see his corpse in a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in the Netflix anime! He's not having a good time of it!

It's been a long time coming. It's certainly an impressive-looking set, and while I'm a bit disappointed that not every English language version could be included I know the drill when it comes to working with Toho and the availability of certain materials. Along with the upcoming Blu-ray set of Ultra Q and Ultraman, the last few months of this year going to be awful expensive for American kaiju fans. Godzilla: King of the Monsters underwhelmed at the box office as it fell short of $400 million (though it was far from the only movie that suffered the post Endgame slump), but we can look forward to it hitting DVD, blu-ray, and 4K on August 27 as we wait for Godzilla vs. Kong, which is rumored to be switching release dates, but with no confirmation yet. www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=25432Honestly, I think it was a bit presumptuous to try to make kaiju movies on the scale of Marvel Superhero films. Those justify 200 million dollar price tags because they make a billion dollars because they have the widest possible appeal worldwide. Monster movies have always been popular, and I feel like Godzilla is more popular now then he has ever been, but is he popular enough to sustain a 200 million dollar price tag? I think a 100 million dollar Godzilla movie would have made the same at the box office, and everyone would be talking about what a big success it was had that been the case. Monster movies have never been about having the biggest budgets, they have always been about creative solutions within the resources they have. The best monster movie released in the new millennium is The Host, the Korean film. It's cosr something around 12 million, and having more money would not have helped it any, in my opinion. Think more John Wick, less Marvel.

Visited this place yesterday! Got a real good look at Tom and Crow. Noticed how a lot of paint was scraped off on the area of Crow's body that hits the table. I assume this is something that always happens when a Crow is actually used on the show!
They're right next to The Corpse Bride and Gumby, and directly across from Madame.
Also, if you love The Dark Crystal they're having the special exhibition of stuff from that movie that's not part of the permanent Henson exhibition, so if that's your thing you should book it to see it!

The previous DVD sets of Ultra Q, Ultraman, and Ultraseven released in the U.S. were licenced by that aforementioned Taiwanese company and of crummy quality, so you didn't miss much. These'll be serious upgrades as Tsuburaya's HD versions are great!

After two decades of legal trouble (where ownership of Ultraman outside of Japan has been contested thanks to the bogus claims of a Taiwanese company) Tsuburaya has finally found a North American distributor! Mill Creek Entertainment will start releasing practically the entire Ultra Series (shows and movies) starting with Ultra Q and Ultraman on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital formats in October. Apparently, their next release after that will be of a more modern Ultra Series, so they won't necessarily be released them in order.
