And, as promised, the on-rotation Outsider selection is... "RT: Fist of Fury"... - Bruce Lee. 'nuff said. ... while the Originals selection is... "Wild Rebels" (Show 207). - I'm doing this for the kicks.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the Clubhouse...

So, who else saw last Friday's Chit-Chat show? I got two chat comments mentioned; MJ disagreed with me on clutter, and complimented my Mom. Not bad.

I don't know why people keep putting up with me. Thanks to my still getting over my cold and getting back to work after my vacation, the selections for week 428 are a bit thin, right now. The off-rotation selection for the Outsiders is... "Movie Jo Night: 'Death Cruise'"... - That's on-line live tonight. Hope the captain doesn't decide to sink this b---h. ... while the selections for the on-rotation Outsider and the Original are... TBA. - Gimme about three hours and I'll pull the cards for them as soon as I'm home.
Please stand by...

I'll have to miss tonight's show. I'm home fighting off a summer cold. I'll have to wait for the home release. This'll make only the second time I've missed an RT Live show; the first was "The Room", when there was a mix-up over the theater.
And this time I put up enough to get my name on-screen at the end. CRUD!!

Well, the TBA Outsider this week is... "The Mary Jo Pehl Show: Chit Chat & Tid Bits". - That's live tomorrow night on the Clubhouse...assuming I didn't mess up the schedule again.
Now, there are TWO REASONS I haven't mentioned the RT Live show of "RAD". The first one is because I just plumb forgot it was this week. And the second one is that I'm currently fighting a summer cold and will have to miss it. I'll catch it when it's on home release.
DRAT!!

I can't speak for every movie, but I just thought cutting the songs in "I Accuse My Parents" was a bad idea, since I actually enjoyed them. And cutting the "combat rod" scene in "Phantom Planet" was, too, since it directly relates to later scenes in the movie. Still, as mentioned, the scenes are still available elsewhere.
Oh, by the way, I got to see the pre-show for "I Accuse My Parents". Two points: first, the "futuristic" cars in one segment were actually pretty cool. And the clearly British-made drive-in ad was a surprise. They have (or had) drive-ins in the U.K.? I thought they were a strictly American thing.

Well, I'm sure the strike is having an effect on things. I'm willing to wait and see what develops.

I could've sworn Movie Jo Night was tonight. Turns out it's next Tuesday. Oh, well

I saw the movie on tape delay, but I haven't watched the pre-show or the post-movie bits yet. I thought the riffing was good, but why did Chris cut two of the songs? ("Are You Happy in Your Work?" was left in.) The songs are the best parts of the movie.

Slight problem, folks. I'd hoped to keep up during my vacation at my Ancestral Home. Unfortunately, one of the DVDs I brought locked up, and I forgot to bring the other one. I'll catch up ASAP, and let know how things turned out. In the interim, here are the selections for week 427. The off-rotation Outsider is... TBA... - I could've sworn "Movie Jo Night" was tonight, but it ain't. I'll get back to you. ... while the on-rotation selection is... "Movie Sign with the Mads: 'Citizen Kane'"... - I'm not going to Sing Sing! SING SING!! ... and the Originals selection is... "Mighty Jack" (Show 314). - At least it isn't "Simple Jack".
Stay tuned...

Reporting in from somewhere in Northeastern PA, here's a look back at week 425.
The "Farm Family Shorts" are among my favorite RT efforts. The riffing from Bridget & MJ is very funny, and more affectionate kidding than harsh. Plus, I figure that's what life was probably like for the farmers in my family around that time (circa 1967-68). It seemed very familiar to me from the farm work I did a few years later. (However at my Uncle Bruce's farm, we didn't have a pipe system to get the milk to the bulk tank. I lugged it there in a bucket.)
As for "The Doomsday Machine", I can only figure the reason this isn't mentioned more among the worst movies ever made is that people don't know about it. They should, because it rots. The later-shot footage doesn't match the older stuff at all, the production values are ultra-cheap, the script makes no sense, the acting isn't very good, and the ending is just plain awful. At least the Titans did a good job with the riffing, and Josh's bit near the end was very funny.
By comparison, "Fire Maidens of Outer Space" is still bad. But is marginally better. Yes, it's heavily padded, sexist for the period, ridden with cliches, and pretty nonsensical. But the music reminded me of one of the better Time-Life offer commercials. (I still remember the 8-tracks cost $12.98.) The riffing was great, and the Invention Exchange was good, too. But the main attraction is the appearance of Timmy, the evil doppelganger of Crow. That was pretty cool, especially when Joel goes into Ripley mode.
Well, I'll be getting over to the horse pull momentarily. But first, here's what's up for week 426. The off-rotation Outsider is... "The Mads are Back LIVE: I Accuse My Parents"... - That's live tonight, but I'll have to catch it on tape delay. ... while the off-rotation Outsider is... "Life After MST3K: Kevin Murphy"... - Actually, he's been pretty busy since then. ... while the Original Selection is... "Hercules Against the Moon Men" (Show 410). - SAAAAAAANDSTOOOOORM!
We'll be right back...

I apologize for the delay. It was due to a combination of getting ready for my annual vacation at my Ancestral Home, and ProBoards blocking my IP address at home. (What did I do to offend them?) Anyway, here's a look back at week 424.
The Shareholders' Meeting for MJ's show went quite well. She gave a listenable keynote speech, then we got down to the details. It seems the show is doing quite well and providing a good return. I'm not sure how I'll be listing this on my next 1040 form, though. There was also a nice video review of the previous year, and a guest (whose name escapes me) providing a dizzying bunch of stats re: Movie Jo Night. (Which movie had the most walking scenes? How many animal attacks were there?) Yes, I didn't get my meal choice for lunch, but you can't have everything.
As for "Octaman", it's basically an uncredited, vastly inferior remake of "Creature from the Black Lagoon". Poor production values, pitch black photography, lousy characters, an ending that's supposed to be sad but isn't...this movie has it all. And I'm pretty sure this was one of those movies Channel 9 would run on Saturdays right after "Doctor Who". The program also included an anti-drug short featuring McGruff. And if the sight of a trenchcoated anthropomorphic dog growling at you isn't enough to get you off drugs, what will? The riffing, though, was fine, even if the movie made Bill quit RT for a few minutes. I watched this from the DVD, which included the great pre-show titles.
As for "The Atomic Brain", I think Channel 5 ran this one back in the day. It's dark, gray, depressing, and filled with characters that are evil, stupid, or both. Well, at least there was a black cat who survived, albeit with an evil brain. By comparison, the short on Juvenile Delinquency is a big ray of sunshine. Nice to know there once were kids who believed enough in democracy to try and use it for good purposes. Great riffing on this one. The host segments were OK, including the return of Magic Voice. And we got one of the better Invention Exchanges. I wonder how tough it was for Trace to play Crow playing Dr. F.
So, that worked out well, I guess. Let's move on to what's left of week 425. I'll do my best to set aside enough time for it, whenever I'm not at the harness racing, the horse pull, the demolition derby, the tractor pull, the fireworks, the baseball game, the revival showing of "Beach Blanket Bingo", and the rest. Anyway, the first non-rotation Outsider selection is... "RT: Farm Family Shorts"... - Well, I'll be at the farm, anyway, so why not? ... and the on-rotation second Outsider is... "CT: Doomsday Machine"... - Not the good one with William Windom. ... and the Originals selection is... "Fire Maidens of Outer Space" (Show 416). - Yes, I recognize that lovely melody "A Stranger in Paradise".
Enjoy!

Sheesh, I have the worst sense of time possible. Anyway, here's what we have for week 424. The first Outsider (non-rotation) is... "The Mary Jo Pehl Show: 2023 Shareholders Meeting"... - That's live on-line tonight, assuming I don't lose power. I don't know if they're providing meal vouchers. ... while the on-rotation Outsider is... "RT Live: Octaman"... - Does he have blue or black ink? Sometimes, that's important. ... and the Originals selection is... "The Atomic Brain" (Show 518). - Is there a green version of this movie based on solar power?
Stay tuned...

It seems I posted too soon. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I couldn't get back to Phoenixville on Sunday. So, we have these last minute substitutions. For the Outsiders, we have... "Return to Eden Prairie" (Pt. 2)... - I never get tired of hearing about the show's history. ... and the Originals selection is... "Jack Frost" (Show 813). - Hey, the cat was just doing its job with the broom thing.
I hear things went well at the Colonial on Sunday. I'll have to ask around for more details.
