Yes, I would bury that where no one could find it. Perhaps a litter box

I didn't see it at first because of my adblocker.
If this is the strategy for season 14, I think they're better off trying another fundraiser.

As for livelihoods specifically- this isn’t a full time job for anyone outside Matt, Joel and a handful of folks at Gizmonic Arts - and that’s one of the major issues. Everyone treats this like some vanity project/ weekend gig and it clearly shows. And that makes the "we need to pay people a living wage! You're just against fair labor!" arguments less effective. I agree, we should pay people a fair wage. But these people work on this show for a month or 2 every 2-3 years. No one is "living" off MST in this day and age except maybe Matt and Joel (and whatever anonymous Gizmonic Arts people we never see), and even then I assume they each have more stable income elsewhere. MST is a supplement to whatever they're all doing in real life for their actual living wage. If it were their living, they'd be living in a cardboard box with a sign saying "Will riff for food" because its been years since they last got paid. Provide me with a breakdown of how many people you want to employ full-time, for what, and I might be swayed, especially if most of the money goes to actual continual production of the product I'm paying for. But if 75% of the budget goes to keeping Joel and Matt situated in a suburban Philly office for 2+ years after production ends so they can do nothing but doodle and think up new crowdfunders and not ACTUAL production...then we're just funding a hobby and not anyone's living. I really, really hope they didn’t spend 2 years planning that campaign. That felt more like something you threw together on a weekend while you were hungover.

Let's talk about the movie selections. I would say yet another miscalculation by Joel. Yes, I know there are some riff fans that are all about, "you gotta riff this movie" but I was never one. Pick some movie I've never heard of and let's go. But another point. They made a big deal this time about lining up the movies, but correct me if I'm wrong, but most of them were owned by shout and isn't Plan 9 public domain. Big chunks of the budget shouldn't have been going here. Per Wikipedia, which isn't the most reliable source in the world but it's late, Plan 9 is indeed in the public domain.

The mst3k.com homepage has reverted back to the Season 13 promo. No sign of the fundraiser in sight. Yeah, it's been that way for me for at least a few hours or so.

Is it just me, or have they scrubbed any mention of the campaign from MST3K.com? I was accessing the fundraiser through the homepage and don’t see it now.

I'm assuming a bunch of people are upping their pledges or grabbing some of the bigger rewards, expecting them to fail and not be on the hook. They better HOPE that happens. Because if the platform allows them to collect what they've pledged up to... It probably won't happen. But if it does... I don’t understand the point of that. Hoping it will stimulate people on the fence? It’s not like they can magically make the season of a significant number of pledges fall through.

They’re at the point where they need to average about 100,000 per hour to make it. Someone call a fat lady.

I just caught the marathon at the top of the hour (9 pm eastern Friday 11/24/23) and the pre-recorded Matt pitch said quite clearly "There are a scant 12 hours left in our campaign." Not marathon or telethon, campaign. They prerecorded all of these in October and they didn't have time since to ADR the correct time left to pledge even as they realized they were falling far behind where they needed to be? It's a moot point now, I suppose, but I don't think they need people turning off the marathon tonight or tomorrow morning and thinking the fundraiser is already over. Folks, they just didn’t care.

I don't think they anticipated failure. That's been pretty obvious since the beginning. The plan seems like it was "Ask for money with no elaboration > get money" I really don't think they ever considered not getting the money. Which makes it more likely they'll try more and more desperate measures. Phase 3, Profit! Oh wait…

I still don’t understand who thought it was a good idea to launch this in the middle of a strike when anger over the handling of the last Kickstarter and the shipping issues was still in recent memory. Honestly, they might have done better had they waited another year. There was no need to tie it to this particular Turkey Day.

Publicly admitting that the budget was so high because you wanted to film it where you live instead of the cheaper option sure is something.

At RiffTrax, besides Mike, Kevin, and Bill there's - David G. Martin: CEO David D. Martin (no relation):Technical Director (Per his LinkedIn, that's "Oversee all post production work including video encoding, streaming media, live production, DVD authoring, and video editing. Facility management. General operations management.") (The Martins are the ones who took RiffTrax independent from Legend Films in 2012.) That must be horribly confusing. I can picture the Abbott and Costello routine in my mind.

"Fun fact: Our agreement doesn't allow us to make any edits to Gamera, so we need to show you ALL of the 83 minutes, which means that'll be an extra-long episode."
Well, that should satisfy people (myself included) who were annoyed with the edits in season 12's movies.

My guess is that it'll be some sort of multiverse explanation for why the hosts and bots differ. It would make more sense to me than there suddenly being multiple Crow and Tom personalities with multiple Kinga experiments running simultaneously.
But then again. It's just a show. I should really just relax.
