Did the venue have any suggestions about what episodes will be screened or was that left entirely to Joel? And will any other Alternaversal be attending?

One thing that would be interesting to speculate about is how a theoretical run on AMC (who I believe offered to rescue the show if I remember correctly) would have differed from Comedy Central and Sci-fi. Yes, it would have been strange seeing the dregs featured on MST3K aired between showings of Citizen Kane and The African Queen, but AMC used to celebrate b movies in October.

I know the opinions on this board are pretty varied, but I really do love this revival. I don't think they've done enough episodes for me to fairly compare it to the original run, but there are at least five episodes that I feel totally stand with some of the classics. I also know that some people have strong opinions about the decision to remove a host segment from the recent season, but I don't mind it. I also find it worth noting that I saw the live show of The Brain and it was the best MST3K related experience that I've ever had, though I will concede that that might have something to do with the fact that I saw it with my son. The original run ended 13 years before he was born, so it was an experience I never thought I'd have. The movie was perfect for the show and the riffing was very, very sharp.

I might just be overthinking things, but I've noticed quite a few politically-charged jokes in the new MST3K. Examples include making riffs about BlackLivesMatter and NotAllMen, and Bobo calling himself a "useful moron" in Cry Wilderness. I know people in the entertainment industry tend to lean FAR left, and Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt, who are both outspoken liberals, are on the show, but it kind of concerns me. I don't want to hear about politics when I watch MST3K. I want to watch a guy and his robot friends make fun of a shitty movie. I don't think what few political jokes there are (and they are very few) are any more pointed than what the original show had. The vast majority are of the "how about them clowns in congress" variety.

I don't think it's a matter of being sidelined, it's just that they aren't interested in recording their work for wider distribution. Working from memory, but I have read a few interviews with them in which they have been asked why don't they record their shows or their riffs to have them sold outside their live shows (I can't imagine Rifftrax not helping them in at least releasing a "just the jokes" audio track). They seem to just prefer to do it live, which limits their reach to where they perform.

Sadly, though I like the arrangements you have pitched, I can't imagine it would be very practical for Shout! to release them like that. I'm working from memory, but I seem to recall Jordan Fields stating that the reason they stuck to four episodes in a volume was because that was the best way they could release them to be profitable when put up against the costs to license the movies. They don't have to worry about that with the new seasons since home video rights are part of the initial negotiations to license the films. I would probably pass on such a set, though it's one I would have killed for 15 years ago. I bought the sets as they were released. If I could propose another case for the set: a model of the containment unit from the new series that has twelve canisters that each contain a season.

Just... wow. This film may hold the record for MST'ed film with most blatant product placements ever. And I thought the random soda ad in 'Pod People' was shameful. Some great riffs all throughout. (mother putting baseball bat away) "Eric, I told you the tooth fairy doesn't exist!" (Eric vacuums up Mac) "Eric knows this will work because he saw the opening of the movie." Great special effects failure moment that JH&TB didn't catch. When the girl is being dragged along the ceiling and walls by the vacuum, it's pretty obviously a dummy. That gave me a good hearty laugh. Um..... So did the mother in the film really think her *wheelchair-bound* son made that "mess" in the living room? The "sunglasses" bit was great. Reminded me of the "headlight" moment from Mitchell. Man that music during the car chase scene sounded so much like Back to the Future, I couldn't tell if they seriously had used audio of it, or if it was just really similar. "Eric, it's me mom. What's the password to the Internet again?" "Mom, I saw dead in heaven! He said you pushed him off a cliff!" That ending scene.... with the aliens being made official Earth citizens (I guess), and dressed up in stereotypical suburban clothing. Somebody thought that was a good idea for the film.... I still haven't gotten used to Baron as Servo. Overall, pretty good episode. One of those films that gave the riffers plenty to work with. Regarding the music for the van chase: Alan Silvestri wrote the music for both this and BttF, so they probably just asked him to ape his own music.

From the article: "In other words, the show starts, movie begins, a host segment happens, the movie continues, another host segment happens, the movie ends, and the show ends." I read that as two host segments during the movie, so they're only dropping one of them.

Oh, one thing that does bug me though is that they aren't going to explain how Crow and Tom are back on the SOL and not still living with Mike. I thought I read an article last year where Joel said they were going to explain this? Oh well. I believe Joel said such an event would be dependent on whether or not Mike agreed to do a cameo.

So if I remember correctly doesn't Netflix usually push or release new content at like 4-5am est on release day? I am just trying to figure out if it's worth getting up early to watch or not. Sleeping in is nice and all. I believe it should launch at 0300 EST. I've got a two month old baby, so I'll probably be up just as it debuts.

I saw them in Cincinnati two weeks ago and it was probably the hardest I've laughed at MST3K. The show was kinda structured like a ComedySportz performance, so they were really playing to the crowd. If the riffing in the new episodes is as strong as it was on this show, we're in for a great season.

This might be a little spoiler-y, but there was an episode of the Revival League Podcast that featured the puppeteering team in which they talked about Cambot being more mobile this season. They also built a Cambot prop that will be onscreen this season that will be used during a few scenes. As for the movie announcements, I think it looks to be a strong season. I don't see how The Asylum is that different than the Roger Corman assembly line, so I don't mind the inclusion of Atlantic Rim.
