Have to work late. Leaving for work, garage door will only open part way, also causing garage lights to dim. Get the car out and go to work, come home, thinking it's an issue with the door opener itself. Going to make a bite to eat, but oven won't heat above 100 degrees (technically it doesn't heat at all, but thermostat doesn't read below 100). Thinking I've got current issues, I go to the laundry room and try to turn on the dryer. When I push the start button, the dryer does not start but the light in the laundry room goes out until I release the button. I mean, what the hell?I check my fuses. It's an old house but the vintage electrical system looks pristine and has always worked well. Can't figure out the problem. Figure I'll call the electrician in the morning. Half an hour later, looking through fridge, I lose power to the whole house. Call electrician, he checks it out and says the whole panel is dead all the way up to the meter. So I call the power company and they send a guy out. Takes him over an hour to find the place. He checks the meter, then checks the pole. He then tells me they think it's an issue with the buried line to the house. He said they would set me up with a temp line to power the house and then come back in a day or two to trench in a new cable. By this time it's 2:30 a.m. So I'm sitting around waiting for the temp line to go in so the power comes back on and I can shut down all the lights and so forth. That didn't happen until 5:30 a.m., when it was starting to get damn cold in the house (it was 10 degrees here last night). So now I have power, thank god, but I'm waiting for the power company to come and tear the hell out of my lawn to drop a new line in the ground. On top of that, the temp line appears to not power my garage, so I have to disconnect the garage door from the opener every time I want to go somewhere. At least I'm pretty sure this costs me nothing and it will be an upgrade to an underground line that has to be 50 years old or more. I have other stuff I could complain about that's on my agenda for this week, but I'll stop there. Thanks for allowing the vent, fellow board members Wow that sounds like a real headache, sorry it happened!

It mostly worked itself out. The power company guys got the new line in and didn't even have to dig a trench. They must have just pulled it through using the old cable, which is great because it barely tore up my lawn at all. The only problem left is my garage is still without power and I'm not sure why. I have to revisit the fuse panel and try a few different things.
Not a huge, huge deal, though. The only thing in the garage that uses power are the exterior/interior lights and the door opener, and I can live without those for right now.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my mom 5 years ago, so I can relate. It gets better over time, but the pain never really goes away.

I can't find any of my favorite cereal.
Alf's Puffed Red Wheat. It's a weird, lesser-known cereal, but I could only really find it at Wal*Mart, which only had it occasionally. The other day it occurred to me that it'd been a *long* time. So I looked online for it, and could only find two solid references to it. One was Wal*Mart's online store which declared the product to exist but then said that they weren't selling it anymore. The other was a lot of people in other message boards just saying that they hadn't been able to find it since Wal*Mart apparently stopped carrying it.
And it's just... weird. I mean, this brand of cereal apparently has no brand presence on the Internet. That's kind of impressive, really. You'd think there'd be, like... something. I wasn't even positive what the cereal's name was until I found its picture at Wal*Mart's website and said "Yes! Yes, that's the logo..."
So... yeah. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it's kinda bummed me out. I'm hoping the cereal is still in production and I've just not found it.

Sunday was a beautiful day, warm and sunny, so I took a walk on the beach. Enjoying the fresh air, the waves, the birds the SCENERY. And...what is ALMOST EVERY OTHER PERSON on said beach doing? Playing on their flippin' phones!! Either yapping away or playing Pokemon Go, unaware of their real life, real time surroundings.
Some woman was walking her dog (guess the poor thing should thank it's lucky stars), her head down, not paying any attention to her pet, telling it to stop, and don't go here or there, poor thing couldn't go for a REAL walk and get some exercise and investigate things, just slow as molasses meandering, and this idiot woman is tripping over the pavement.
Other people are just wandering around aimlessly, looking at their screens and cutting off others who are trying to walk. I said, "EXCUSE ME, there are ACTUAL people walking here."
There could be real, live eagles soaring overhead, and these morons are looking for fake sh*t.
AArrRRGH! Enough people! Get your heads out of your asses and enjoy where you REALLY are!

Had an eye appointment this morning, but they told me it was at the wrong place. When I got there, the funniest riffs came into my head while the doctor was shining the world's brightest light in my eyes, and I could not stop laughing to save my life.
Also, thanks to the ridiculously bright lights, I have a god-awful headache now. If my headache was a Kaiju, I think it would be Anguirus.
I hate my eyes.

When I read an entry on a film's box office bust, I don't need to see an irrelevant conspiracy sounding comment about audiences objecting Hollywood politically. That dickweed can't pull the wool over my eyes, especially since I can view his comment history and where he posts his dirty laundry. (UPDATE: Looks like the mod read my mind and deleted that comment. My point still stands though.)

So, I've been working on a freelance writing project for a year-ish. More than that at this point. And it's been a drag that it's going on so long, as much as I love it.
So, I finally had the "editor doing a final pass on it" sweep. I thought I was done and that it just needed a final approval before going to layout and print. For some reason I didn't expect the guy running the project to come in and give it a sweep himself.
And this is nothing against that guy, he's great. And his suggestions are all reasonable, well-informed, and frankly not that difficult to implement. But I was so close to being done, and now I'm not. Takes its toll, ya know?
Anyway... just gotta roll up my sleeves and get back in there. With luck I can be almost done again pretty soon.
