I know. People I guess feel they taped them off TV, so why pay (especially for Hamlet -Heck The Brains have the rights to Touch of Satan- that would have made a better choice)
But they have to think. If you want more DVDs you have to show your support. Even tho I have these all on tape I'm still going to buy them. Let Rhino know that there's still a viable a market for MST.

Rhino is only going to do what they feel will make them money. It's not about them being lazy or not caring, but going out and getting rights to expired movies, and composing special features just isn't going to prove profitable to Rhino. Those things cost additional money that Rhino probably won't get back if they invest in them.
Unfortunately I think there is going to be an end to the new products that are released and that that end will come very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a Volume 5 with Touch of Satan, Boggy Creek 2, and a couple of other episodes, but nothing more to look forward to after that.

Maybe add "Gunslinger" to that list Unsavory. Isn't that the only tape that Rhino hasn't put on DVD?
Maybe throw in something like the "scrapbook tape" to get the 4th, but yeah, sadly this could be it.

Gunslinger is a real possibility, but it seems like they would have done that in Volume 4 instead of grabbed up Space Mutiny if they were planning to use it. That's just my own screwed up logic though, so pay no mind.

Rhino also has the rights to 'Hercules and the captive women' and 'The Slime People' which are both MST3K episodes.
The person who mentioned the idea of Screaming Skull and it being public domain. As you mentioned they have the Gumby short and if you have noticed other then the serials on MST3K I think the Gumby short is the only not to have been released on video by Rhino or Best Brains.

That's something I never considered before, Public Domain...
yeech... But, I guess the law is the law...
I won't be getting the boxed set, but that's because I've got Space Mutany and Hamelt downloaded off of a sharefile program, and my boy is digitally recording the Girl in the Golden Boots when it comes around again on Sci-Fi. I also just finished downloading one of my fave's, Overdrawn At The Memory Bank... Mr. Julia, rest in peace my friend.
I'm a big supporter of "Keep Circulating The Tapes"... but on second thought, if I do get the money, and it helps get more episodes released, I'll buy the boxset. Space Mutany is just too flippin hilarious! "Staunch Beef Breath" "Harry McLarge Huge"
I've never laughed so hard. Gotta love that canadian bacon.

So has anyone seen the new boxed set stuff yet? Are the intros by Mike interesting or kinda dumb like Shorts Vol. 1 with Tom?
I agree with whoever said that there wouldn't be anything much past a Vol 5. I don't think the demand has been there, partly because of the tape circulating. Not that I'm anti-circulating, the vast majority of my collection has come by such means, but I'm always on board for pristine copies from an original source. Still, I too would love to see new episode releases and not just rehashes of stuff that's been available on vhs for a few years.

I taped all of these off of TV, but I still might get it.
I seem to be in the minority of people who actually liked the Hamlet episode. Sure it's not high quality as the rest of the show but I get this happy feeling whenever I watch it. Something about the guys taking on Shakespear that I like...
Anywho, I like the selection they're giving us here, each episode has it's moments:
Space Mutiny **** Overdrawn at the Memory Bank *** 1/2 Girl in the Gold Boots ** 1/2 (although I haven't seen the full episode in a while) Hamlet ***

Quite frankly, I was looking forward to buying this set, but then I entered a bit of a financial crisis. I *could* buy this, but I've only got about $250 dollars in the bank, and I'm trying to get through college, so it would probably behoove me to hold off for just a bit.

I'm dying to see Mikes intros, but... at this time of year I kind of have to hold off thinking selfishly and spend my $ on others. The Holiday's and all. I suspect Santa might leave one for me under the tree tho.

I have some books on the Public Domain and plan to eventually do a write-up for the site on it. And there were a number of Public Domain movies featured on MST, such as Giant Gila Monster, Teenagers From Outer Space, The Screaming Skull, The Phantom Planet, The Killer Shrews, The Commando Cody serial, Ring of Terror, Attack of the Giant Leeches, Crash of the Moons, Teenage Crimewave, Bride of the Monster, Invasion USA and a number of others. Also, I think both Santa Claus and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians are in the PD as well. Some of Rhino's releases have been of episodes with Public Domain movies (such as Eegah!, The Brain That Wouldn't Die, and The Atomic Brain), so why they haven't released other PD titles makes no sense. (P.S. There was a new PD law in 1998 that extended existing copyrights for an additional 20 years, but anything that was already in the PD stayed in the PD, such as all the movies above.) This post really got me thinking and I replied in another thread about where people get the titles of Public Domain movies. Well I found a website where it lists the titles and 'Santa Claus conquers the martians' IS public domain and so is 'Bride of the Monster' what is wrong with them? These are classics, after watching The Wild Wild World of Batwoman DVD with JOELS music AND face AND name all over the DVD in a MIKE episode. I am now positive Rhino has no idea what MST3K is.

Yes, but still, why put in Sci-Fi eps, when they could use some earlier eps instead? It'd make MiSTies much happier. Do we know that more fans prefer the CC eps than the Sci-Fi eps?

Do we know that more fans prefer the CC eps than the Sci-Fi eps? There was actually a poll taken a while back of what episodes we as fans wanted to be released. You can find it here, www.mst3kinfo.com/dvd.html A lot of the top vote getters have been released but, there's still a long way to go. I think we all agreed that we wanted more CC eps. Servo

Yes, and the wise ones at MST3Kinfo directed Rhino to that poll when they were asked (by Rhino) what they shoudl try to release next....
