Not bad for a show that ended over 4 years ago.
Yes, the contract extension between BBI and Sci-Fi ends in a little over two months with the airing of episode 912, "The Screaming Skull". Unless some miracle were to occur between then and now, it will be the last MST3K episode seen on television...ever.
I was curious...if it were up to you guys, which episode would you use to end the series' televised run with a bang and why? Comedy Central-era or current, it doesn't matter (or wouldn't in a perfect world).
My choice would be the legendary "Manos: The Hands of Fate" because it's always been a fan-favorite. "Diabolik" would also make sense, for obvious reasons.

First I should say this is my first post on this board, and it looks like I've finally found a good MST forum, well done guys... Anyway, although I feel would be best if Diabolik was the last episode ever shown, I do feel a little emotional about THE SCREAMING SKULL being the last one aired, as it was the first episode I ever saw. And by emotional I mean a few manly tears...

I agree that Manos would be an excellent show to end the series with if that were a possibility.
As for me, I'm in the same boat as Forrest. I have all the MST3K tapes and DVDs I could ever ask for so I don't plan on getting overly emotional. It's still a shame that the show is going to be gone though....

What makes MST3K fun to watch again is the fact that there is so much material you can miss the first time. I've never rewatched an episode and not noticed a few new jokes.

I've got mixed feelings about this. Watching the show on Sci-Fi always feels more special than watching a tape or DVD. Probably because you know that somewhere, somehow, someone else is watching it with you. There's also the issue of the fanbase.
On the other hands, I'll be regaining an extra 2 hours of TV time that I can use to actually look at other channels for the first time in years.
Not sure how I feel....I'd like to see the reruns continue, but only if they can replenish the current supply of episodes.

I kind of get what you're saying, but I never get to watch the show when it comes on tv anyway. It comes on at 6 in the morning, which is much too early for me. I'm either asleep at that time, or regretting the fact that I haven't yet gone to sleep.

I'm sad but It's time. Sci-Fi's list of shows they can show is shrinking and I haven't watched in a while anyway.
I still have a few tapes to buy, episodes I've never seen. So I have a little left to look fareward to.
I hope, one day, there is a reunion tour. If the "Kids in the Hall" can have one, I'm sure MST's fan base would support one as well.
As for the final showing? In my dream world, I'd run a "final episode" mini-marathon
Black Scorpion (Josh's last show) Mitchell (Joel's), Samson vs the Vampire Women (Frank's), Laserblast (Trace) and of course... Diabolik.
Or maybe Crawling Eye and Diabolik back to back?

Whoa? Then wouldn't the Eegah showing at 8:00 AM Pacific Time be too early for you? Probably, normally speaking. Still, I'll make it work.

It is incredibly depressing to me. I have bascially been a fan since a baby (born in Jan. 1988 in Minneapolis and my dad watched the KTMA season and I was infront of the TV). It is sad that a show that has always been one of my top two shows is going off the air. I still have hope that someone will snatch up the old MST3K episodes from both Comedy Central & Sci-Fi (AMC, I freakin' hope)

true....but it's hard to get good quality tapes of early episodes. A lot of the ones I have cut off during the stinger, which is really disappointing.

That's strange, I haven't run across that. I got mine from Hayce, The Surfer, Rhodes and think I got my season 7's from Sky on Ebay. and never missed a stinger. Only Rhino's managed to mess that up LOL - Atomic Brain
It sounds like, from what I've heard, that Castle Forrester is doing a good job of trying to assemble a catalog of very clean copies. I'll have to try 'em some time and see for myself.
Edit: I have been told and read on other MBs, that really clean copies of Zilla vs Megs and Untamed Youth are hard, if not impossible to come by.

I bought all of mine from the same guy who tapes many of them off of a digital source. The stinger is rarely missing completely, but it often cuts off half-way through or so.
I got the videos for an excellent price though....much less than I've seen at any other sites. He's raised his prices since, however.

I will be sad to see it go but unless they could get some more eps in rotation there's not much piont in contenuing. But still as long as it was on it could attract new fans. Even though I've seen them all if I was home I always still turned it on.

The depressing moment for me will come when I finish watching my last new episode. There are still a few that I haven't seen, so I still have a lot to look forward to, but when that is gone I'll probably feel pretty empty.

I can see the show...few years from now. On AMC. The show Tales from the Crypt gets shown on Friday nights and Saturday mornings...I think that MST can at least fill a slot like that. Especially if it fills up Tales from the Crypt. That would be a bonus.
I've only been watching for 2 years, but the show really has become part of me. Emotionally of course. I did at one point have the cast and crew stemming off of my torso, but it became sort of distracting, so I removed it.
I am extremely excited about building my tape collection, as I've only seen about 40% of all the episodes. It feels good to be ordering new ones, thinking about how many there really are out there.....somewhere....out there........Soooooome-wheeeeere oooooout theeeeere!!!! Alrighty, we're done there.
But again, we want it on TV because of new fans. And, like many have said before, its just nice to know someone can turn on a TV somewhere and spot the show. It gives me a magical feeling.
And I mean magical in the most masculine way possible.
