I was wondering does anyone have any news about the movie going back into print on DVD? If not maybe we should start a petition to get back into print.

I think Rhino should release it. We all know Universal doesn't give a damn about the movie, this way at least they can make a few more bucks on it without having to do anything.

About a year ago, Universal announced plans to rerelease movies that they had released on DVD back when DVDs were new. I got optimistic when they rereleased Monty Python's Meaning of Life on DVD (I was trying to track down the OOP one forever) that maybe MST3K the movie would resurface. I am considering just converting my VHS tape onto DVD. I'm sure that's the only way I'll ever have it on DVD (without paying insane prices)

I just bought it on VHS off E-Bay for 13 bucks and then burned it to a DVD. Good quality too. But, I would be the first in line if they re-released it on DVD. Servo

I didn't realize copies were so rare! I picked one up on a whim about 5 years ago before I had ever seen the show. I think it was in a huge bin of cheap DVD's in one of those big weird stores like Big Lot's or something. Anyway, I have been loaning it out like a copy of the Matrix or something. I guess I'll have to start taking more care.

Watch Ebay and you might get lucky and find a DVD copy for a great "buy it now" price. I paid $9.95. Which included postage! Took me about 6 months of checking at least once a day.
Sometimes folks put up mass numbers of DVDs without any idea of how rare they are. That was the case with the copy I found. You just have to be quick to find them.

oh my GOD Okay, so i found this auction a couple days ago and i bookmarked it, because i thought it had a while. It was a 29 DVD/VHS lot that included the MST3K movie DVD. I thought WOW, what good fortune! I mean, I could have a good shot at bidding on this and actually getting it at a good price. But apparently it wasn't an auction, he was just SELLING this. for ONE DOLLAR cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=617&item=4191336212&rd=1Okay, Maybe he didn't sell it. Maybe he ended the auction early because he found out how much the MST3K movie was worth, and somebody bidded really fast. But all I know is is that when I found the auction it didn't have any bids.

I got a used copy of the DVD on Half.com for $12 about a year ago. The only bad thing was that there was no case. I just scanned my VHS copy's box, scavenged a DVD case from a missing movie I had and printed the cover myself. Not perfect, but it works for me.

So is there any extra stuff on the DVD that would make it worth buying? We actually have it on laserdisc (remember those?) and are perfectly happy with that. But then we're weird, so...

I think its just letterboxed and thats it. I'd imagine the laserdisk would be letterboxed, so i'd just continue being happy with the laserdisk.

It's not letterboxed, it's a matted widescreen format. It's both matted widescreen and letterboxed. That's just two different ways to describe it. Edit: Actually, let me clarify. The movie itself is matted widescreen, while the DVD is letterboxed. The letterboxing preserves the matted widescreen format of the film.

Letterboxed is just another way of saying widescreen. It implies neither hard nor soft matting.

Ok, I got a question. See, some DVDs are presented in "matted" widescreen, which is like smaller bars at the top and bottom of the screen, and some DVDs are letterboxed, which are like, HUGE bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Does this only apply to what kind of camera the movie was filmed with? are matted widescreen DVDs blown up a bit more than "letterbox" DVDs? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't matting mean that it's fullscreen only with black bars covering it to make the illusion of 1.85:1 widescreen? Like they're doing with the recent releases of Evil Dead. There are two most commenly used types of widescreen, 1.85:1 and 2.35:1. 2.35:1 are the huge bars and 1.85:1 are the small bars (which what I'm pretty sure is what MST3K the Movie was filmed in, even though I haven't seen the movie in widescreen yet).

I was at the San Francisco performance of Kevin, Bill and Mike, and someone asked Mike if the movie would ever be released with the cut scenes. Mike replied that he didn't think anyone could find all the scenes even if they tried. The whole editing process was depressing for Best Brains, and they kind of gave up on it. Evidently, no one took the usual care to see that cuts would be properly preserved. They just wanted to put the whole thing behind them and get back to the show.
