What would I do without you? Well it's your site, you could find out. But that would be wrong.

I only saw half of it. I love watching old cheesy movies, but this came across as dreary as Red Zone Cuba. People who defend this film are no better than people that defend "The Undead". The supposed "psychological atmosphere" in the film is simply the cheap production values. It's about nonsense mixed with nonsense I got it today. I watched the B&W and then the color commentary. Forrest you described it as hard to watch B&W. I can only speculate you saw a bad print. The restored B&W looks fine. It can't save the movie though. It plays out like an overly long mediocre Twilight Zone episode. And I think by '62 this theme had been covered better by TZ. Mike's commentary is fine, a number of chuckles and few good laughs but in the long run not that spectacular. Worth hearing but I don't think I'll need it again anytime soon. How about the colorizing? Absolutely useless. It adds nothing to the movie. And often looks ridiculous. This kind of little movie just works better in B&W. (If it works at all) There is no possibility I will by Legend Films colorized Three Stooges. It will be a travesty. Maybe if Mike came over to my place to offer interactive commentary, no I still couldn't sit through this colorizing assault on the Stooges. I really hope Barry Sandrew posts here again.

I remember an old Siskel and Ebert "Cult Classic" show, where they recommended "Carnival Of Souls". It's been years since I've seen it but I recall the B&W fit it quite well and can't imagin color being an improvment.
So is it worth getting, or, aside from the autograph, am I better off waiting (After shipping that's, what... about $24. I could get a Red Dwarf box set for that price and order Souls from Deep Discount for less)
Also, will there be a Halloween release from legend. I remember it was going to be Souls and Living Dead. Now Souls is delayed but what about NOTLD, anyone heard anything?

I didn't finish it, but I watched a couple of minutes of the COS dvd w/ Mike's commentary after it arrived in yesterday's mail. Personally, I thought the colorization this time out was excellent.. much better than that for Reefer Madness. Secondly... wow. Lotsa Centron short vets in this movie, which Mike points out.

I just saw this a little while ago. While it’s obviously no episode of MST, Mike’s commentary is really great! I liked it much more than the one he did for Reefer Madness. The colorization is pretty much what I expected; it completely destroys any atmosphere the film ever had. (I’m one of the weirdo’s who likes the flick, go figure.) At least the black and white version of the film is included. There is a trailer on the disk for the upcoming release of the colorized version of Night of The Living Dead as well. I hope that the color quality on the trailer isn’t an indicator of what it’s going to look like in the final product, because it looked like crap. They may colorize old black and white movies with new state of the art computers, but it doesn’t look any better to me compared to the Ted Turner stuff. Besides, I already saw this in color once! When I was 13 years old my family took a weekend trip up to Wisconsin Dells and we stayed at a condo. I remember that NOTLD was on, and I swear that it was in color. But anyways, Carnival of Souls. Great commentary.

But anyways, Carnival of Souls. Great commentary. You know MX I didn't think so but I need to give it another shot. All the time I was just so mad at the awful crappy looking dye job that is colorization. Damn I wish they had the commentary on the B&W!

Damn I wish they had the commentary on the B&W! You can have the commentary on the B&W version (there is no way I'd watch this movie via Turner-vision). All you have to do is... start the movie in B&W hit your menu button turn on the commentary feature select play You should resume where you left off in the B&W movie. Or, if your DVD player supports it, while the B&W movie is playing use your "Audio" button to select the second english audio track. That should be the commentary track.

I liked Mike's commentary MUCH better in glorious B&W. And BTW, I think Candace Hilligoss is kinda hot in this movie. "Take all the baths you want, I aint one to fuss about such things."

"Take all the baths you want, I aint one to fuss about such things." No prob. I think I'm going to backup my copy (so I don't ruin my autographed copy), but I'm just going to rip the B&W version of the movie. I still don't know why companies still insist on colorizing films. I love B&W movies. Also, I agree, Candace was looking nice in this movie. Except when she had that bug-eyed psycho expression on her face. BTW, you can call me Rex (or Mr. Dart if you are feelin' nasty!)

You can hear the commentary in black and white mode? Doh! I wish I knew that yesterday. I hope that you can do the same thing with the upcoming release of Night of The Living Dead.

I tried this on Refer Madness and it doesn't work. So I wonder if my complaining to Barry Sandrew had any influence on adding commentary to the CoS B&W? That's the only way I would buy NOTLD.

It should work if there's no commentary on the B&W version (which is why it doesn't work for Reefer) I was planning on buying it today, but we had an emergency last night (which chewed up $150 out of the checking account) Soooo I'm gonna half to wait. "Sigh". Dear God, It's me, Mighty... could you stop sitting on your hands and help me out a little bit! Cripes I'm hating 2004!

Does anyone have any comments about Carnival of SOuls? was the commentary good? was the colorization good? I'm glad you asked. The colorization is worthless. I suppose it's decent from a technical standpoint but the movie is better off without it. Mike's commentary is good it is definitely a commentary and not a riffing. It's been said that these commentaries are the next best thing to a new ep but watching this one it struck me just how different it really is. CoS would have been a good full ep but a lot of opportunities are missed here. To tell you the truth Forrest my guess is you'll like the commentary more that I did.
