I wonder if my disk is in yet. I had it sent to my house as opposed to my college address...

I don't know why sooooooooooo many people are making a big deal out of this!!! Especially when everybody SHOULD be making a HUGE fuss about how CRAPPY 1003 Merlin's Shop looks! I think trades should be allowed for less-than-broadcast-quality versions of episodes until they fix what they sell! Michael "Cheepnis" Slusher Rabblerouser wwwMSTDVD.com

So I'm just warning you this is nothing personal, but I have to disagree with you. Yes, it's simply 50 seconds, but this is a professional Home Video company, and they're cutting out major portions of the video. There were some good riffs in the section. Why even bother paying for a partial Killer Shrews? The same thing for Pod People, just a few seconds are gone, it's understable why it could happen, but it's still inexcuseable from a professional company like Rhino. If it give you a blank DVD and call it Killer Shrews, would you still not be bothered?

Who cares if there were some good riffs in that section? You'll live if you don't see that 50 seconds of footage? 50 seconds out of about 1 hour and 40 minutes of the show that you're missing. Just give Rhino a break!

I think the missing footage is pretty damn significant, there's no reason that we should get incomplete episodes for our money.
I do think anyone who seriously believes Rhino cut the footage is wrong, though. It seems pretty apparent that they were sent an incomplete tape and didn't notice (since it's doubtful the Rhino Home Video folks would know an episode that well). Hopefully from now on they'll be certain to check what they have against another copy.

Just give Rhino a break! I believe you have to be the one who is kidding us. In the world of film, 50 seconds is very significant. It could mean the cutting of an entire plot point. Obviously, that's not the case here, but it is still an example of paying money for a half-assed product, and that's something nobody should stand for, otherwise we could be a corporation's whipping boys for life. I don't blame Rhino for what happened because I don't have the backstory on it, but it is a problem that should be rectified.

Because I think that not even a minute of footage should cause an apocalypse among you guys? Trust me, i've seen the missing 50 seconds of missing footage, you don't miss any plot points TORGO, and the riffing isn't even that funny on that 50 seconds of footage. I mean it gave me one chuckle and that's it.

Now maybe 10-20 minutes may be considered incomplete but 50 seconds?

Some companies are releasing TV shows on DVD in their syndicated versions (The Cosby Show, for example). When a show is put in syndication, they cut jokes for extra commercials. That means anywhere from 50 seconds to 2 minutes of a given ep are missing.
Take The Simpsons, for example. The syndicated versions of those eps cut out classic bits, sometimes as short as 10 seconds. But would FOX ever release those versions on DVD? No frickin' way. You know why? Because Simpson fans are rabid. I mean scary.
But other shows are getting the shaft- for no other reason than the fan base doesn't really care, so the distributor doesn't care, either.
So, yes. 50 seconds matters. And if we fans act like it doesn't, then Rhino can keep cutting corners.

As I mentioned in another post, I think you just need to hang around the MST community a little longer.
The "Rhino sucks/Rhino is great" debate has a long history. And most MSTies in the world are pretty meticulous when it comes to the show.
But I reiterate my point that the fan base of any given show dictates the care in which the distributor releases it. Which is why shows like the Star Trek incarnations or The Simpsons get such loving attention and shows like Alf get released in cut versions.

But that Dr. Forrester guy needs to cool it.
