Up until this summer I only had 1 Joel episode so I picked up a bunch of Joel's including "The Pod People" and "Attack of the Giant Leeches".
The Pod People (Episode #303) Dr. F sums it up when he says "It has nothing to do with pods, it has nothing to do with people. It has everything to do with pain". The movie really does look like 3 seperate films, one starring two poachers, one starring a bizarre little kid with his mom and uncle, and the third starring a group of teens who claim to be a rock band. The movie is all about alien invaders, who aren't really inading. If they are it is even a more poorly planned invasion then "Independence Day". Anyways little kid finds one of these aliens (who are born of eggs, which may or may not be translated as pods) which hatches and is actually pretty nice and the boy names him Trumpy. Any way to make a long story short this nice alien survives, but the bad one dies however only after it kills pretty much everyone. The movie is lacking a lot of stuff such as acting or plot, however it has plenty of fog. The riffing on this movie is awesome and it has some of the best host segments ever in my mind. Best riff: "Trumpy, you can do stupid things" Best line from the movie: "It stinks" Best Site: That T-shirt. MST3K Rating: 10 out of 10
Attack of the Giant Leeches (#406) Deep in the Lousiana swamps dwells an evil being, a grocery store clerk with a large collection of guns. After he finds his wife cheating on him with his best friend he chases her and him down firing shots into the air. He finally corners them and the poor sap he's been chasing completely breaks down and starts crying like a Kindergartener. Luckily before he loses the last shred of dignity, giant leeches attack him. Multiple people get attacked by leeches and kidnapped but the jerk nature guy wont let them dynamite the lake. Eventually they do dynamite the lake and kill all the sea life, but because of the JERK all the people are dead. Stinks huh? The riffing is fair, but the real gem of this movie is the short "Undersea Kingdom: Episode 1" the story of a civilazation of sword wieliding troops fighting against the evil side who are armed with lasers, tanks, and airplanes. Real fair huh? Best riff: "Whoa I see London I see France" "Hey come on! She's dead!" Best line from the movie: "I'll make some coffee" Best site: The little boy spazzes out MST3K Rating: 6 out of 10

Man I had "hurting" written down in my signature and I still wrote "pain". Sheesh, why did I do that? Anyways I got a bunch of new MST3K's this summer so I'll have reviews soon of Mitchell, Cave Dwellers, Gunslinger, and Mr. B's Lost Shorts as soon as I watch them.

Devil Fish (Episode #911) In this movie we learn that all the Axis Powers from World War II apparently had special laws placed on them preventing them from making good movies, cause this Italian "film" ranks right along with Japan in the stinkburger ratings. Anyways I'd tell you the plot but I watched the whole freaking thing and I still dont know the plot. Basically it's a ripoff of Jaws except this time it's so dang personal that it's ridiculous. This movie probably owns the record for most scenes shown in a minute. The movie's editor must have had a very short attention span ("OK now lets see the dolphins, now beer, now monster, now scientist, now beer, now monster...) This film also features several cleverly edited scenes by the MST gang, including the oddly placed MST3K Moon in one scene. Anyways the riffing on this is pretty good, but the movie jumps around so much that it really wasn't as funny as it could have been. I'm also very upset at the fact that the beer drinking guy, and the big glasses lady got killed while fuzzy face and skinny girl survived (I forgot to mention that no one is given names, but Dr. Davis) Best riff: The continuous laughing throughout the end credits. That just cracked me up. Best line from the movie: You Electrician! Best Site: The guys drinking liked 8 beers and yet never getting drunk. MST3K Rating: 7 out of 10

The famous 'It stinks!' line seems to me like it was overdubbed. His lips aren't moving like they are saying it stinks. Does anyone know if this was some sort of edit?? What is he really saying??

You know, I never really thought about that, but now that I do, it probably was dubbed in to cover some sort of cursing. Reminds me of Final Justice when they kept making fun of the editing. "I'll kill you, but I won't curse you!"

I thought the whole thing was dubbed on account of it being a foreign movie (from Spain, I think)...isn't it?
As for the line about "It has everything to do with hurting!"..._I_ always misremember that as "pain", too. I'm just glad to find out I'm not the ONLY one. ("Pain" would've worked better, frankly...well, okay, DEEEEP HURTING and all that, but in this case "pain" would've finished off the alliteration with "pod" and "people". Which is probably why my brain insists on "remembering" the line that way.)
Anyway. I love those episodes, too. Well, I was only _moderately_ fond of Devil Fish. But Pod People and Giant Leeches are two of my favourites. Yeah.

Little kids in movies that are dubbed from english to spanish always have high pitched, annoying voices.

It was dubbed from Spanish. But through many other lines that they say, the dubbing lines up with their lips. It looks like their dubbing english over english. I mean, I know it was a spanish film, but it looks like they're speaking english.

I haven't updated this in a while so I'll quickly do two movies from season 3 (which I just got)
Gamera (Episode #302) The first in the classic "Gamera" series. This movie starts out like most monster films, with the statement "That plane must have been carrying atomic weapons". So soon we have Gamera smashing everything in sight. Basically he's Godzilla. Except in this movie we have a kid cheering for the murderous monster. Kenny is your typical absolutely insanely annoying Japanese kid actor. In Japan, do children really control the military? It seems in every Japanese movie I've seen, children's opinions are help higher, than say, the Secretary of Defenses'. The riffing on this movie is very good. The host segments are so-so. It's always weird to see Mike show up on the Host segments (this time as Gamera). Best Riff: "Cut cut, do it all over again!" - Joel during the terribly acted scene in the American air force room. Best Line From the Movie: "Gamera really is good, isn't he?" - Kenny just after Gamera has totally wasted an atomic power plant. Best Sight: That one reporter guy continously stalking that girl, and bragging about it. MST3K Rating: 8 out of 10
Time of the Apes (Episode #306) This may be the most baffling movie is MST3K history and for good reason: It was really a TV show. The great Sandy Frank pieced together several episodes from a Japanese TV show to make a movie. And it is terrible. Because of the poor put togethers there are many ridiculous inconsistencies, including the line "I think I understand now. Yukon is going to attack the other country" even though we have never heard of Yukon. Even though I'm sure the TV show made much more sense it is still terrible. I own a monkey mask better than the ones in this movie. At one point the little boy makes a face (when seeing the two girls again) and I thought he was being stabbed in the back. The riffing is OK, but when a movie is this agonizing and plotless it's hard to riff well. The host segments are all well done, including the dramatic depiction of the Scopes Monkey Trial. All in all the shameless rip off of "Planet of the Apes" is quite painful and pushes Sandy Frank to number 3 on my MST3K hate list, behind Coleman Francis and Rick Sloane. Best Riff: "Hurts don't it" - Joel (I think) as the Yukon UFO lifts off after showing the monkey general that he killed his own son. Best Line From the Movie: "I don't care" may the best line from any movie, so I'll just select the runner up since that is just too easy: "Godo! Help!" which, when said quickly, just sounds wrong. Best Sight: Watch closely when the three main characters look out the door and then escape from the house as the locals approach; they all pick up their shoes. That's right. They're thousands of years in the future, being pursued by human like monkeys, and they still take their shoes off before entering a home. MST3K Rating: 6 of 10

Fugitive Alien (Episode #310) Another Sandy Frank experiment on the SOL, Fugitive Alien is yet another TV show turned into a movie. The movie itself is probably the most bearable Japanese film in all of MST3K. There is no annoying kid and the plot may be indecipherable but at least it isn't boring. In other words you won't be wishing for death to come upon you unlike Time of the Apes. The MSTing of this is very good. The jokes don't come fast and furious but instead they work their way into the movie slowly. The Jack Perkins host segments are some of the most hilarious things you will ever see. Lastly, can someone explain the insane logic of putting two people named "Ken" in one scene? Best Riff: (singing along with the Japanese imperial sounding music) "He tried to kill me with a forklift..." Best Line from the Movie: "Is she your morale officer" said by the extremely sleazy sounding space general about the girl on the ship Best Sight: The girlfriend of the main guy. Do you think blonde is her natural color? MST3K Rating: 7 out of 10
"It Conquered the World" and the short "Snow Thrills" (Episode #310) All hail the great Roger Corman! King of B Movies! Seriously, I am slowly becoming a Corman fan. He accepted the fact that his movies weren't going to be hits so he just made them. "It Conquered the World" took only 5 days to film (which is actually two days longer than it took to shoot his classic "Little Shop of Horrors") Anyways this is just a totally entertaining experience all around. The movie is not agonizing so you can watch it without pulling your hair out and J&TB do a great job on it. "Snow Thrills" is totally hilarious. The "you're full of skit" line is one of Joel's finest. A classic short. All around this is just great. Best Riff: "The light Peter! The light is on!" -Joel to Peter Graves as he does not notice that the electricty suddenly works at his house Best Line From The Movie: Naturally the "he learned too late" speech is the best but it's too long. Instead... "I saw a funnee lookin' berd" - The Hispanic soldier, probably meant for comic relief Best Sight: The little creatures that carried the mind control stuff. They would also be used as the creatures that the witch and her imp turn into in "The Undead", another Roger Corman film. MST3K Rating: 9 out of 10

Ken (Star Wolf Ken) says at one point, while explaining how he came to be a fugitive, "The child's name was also Ken!" I think he's explaining that the kid's name was another reason he couldn't bring himself to shoot the kid.
So, it's not brilliant logic, but it does kinda make sense.
