Wow, I'm gonna have to differ with you here. I don't own the movie and I've only seen it twice, but I think there's at least a few degrees of difference between ESOTSM and Overdrawn despite the "memory bank" plot points. I really liked the visual style which reflected rather well the kind of fluid and incoherent and anachronistic landscape of the human mind. Overdrawn does some of this, tis true, which kind of endears it to me, along with Raul Julia's great and insipid (great because it's insipid?) work in playing along with it.
Music, I s'pose is, like everything else, a matter of taste, but I don't remember any of the songs being stringent or irritating or otherwise hiindering the action as say, that Doop doop doop Casio processed stuff that was on Overdrawn.
As for the acting, plot, everything else...it really moved me. The disconnection of people and our ability nowadays to isolate further and further from any pain or discomfort even to the point of dismantling our own lives...what makes us true frightens us. I liked seeing Jim Carrey tap into what "darkness" he has and make his character have to fight for his own connection, for his right to remember his girlfriend in all her faults and flaws and goodness.
I don't mean to write a dissertation on it, but I think that this movie, and these kinds of psycho-surreal dark comedies are fascinating and worth making a movie about, unlike, Flav-O-Fives and digital snow and being an intoxicated baboon. Though, I'll concede that there are, on reflection (if you can reflect on Overdrawn at the Memory Bank), a lot of interesting parallels between the movies.

Isn't this your second thread on the same movie, Forrest?

-Musically - The music was crap. Hey now, when you say ALL the music in this movie is crap, you include some ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) and, that's far from crap. Servo

Forrest. When most people don't like a movie, they dismiss it and forget about it. You watched it again and wrote up even more reasons why you don't like it.
Why pay this much attention?

I'm not even going to read Forrests rant, because really, at this juncture in our movie relationship, whats the point. I'll just counter by saying, it's one of the best, most original, honest and real looks at relationships that has ever been made. It is difinately one of the 10 best flicks of recent years, as well as one of my all time favorites. That my side of it - that is all, I am out and I wont be back (because this boys learned the futility of debate)

I saw it again, and, though I respect others opinions, and I also see WHY some people like movies that I don't like - but THIS movie - it is the definition of pretension. This is coming from the man who has been defending 2001 to me?

I liked Eternal Sunshine. It was a little slow in parts, but it's far from the worst movie ever.
If you liked this movie, I encourage you to check out the DVD "The Work of Director Michel Gondry". Michel Gondry is the guy who directed Eternal Sunshine, and the DVD is chock full of some seriously cool music videos done by him.

This is coming from the man who has been defending 2001 to me? This is coming from the man who has never seen 2001 the entire way through, and yet can watch countless wrestling matches. Hey, sometimes I'd watch paint dry over 2001.
