I'm extremely disappointed that Howl's Moving Castle didn't get released in Ohio. I'm hoping it does well enough to get a wider release in a week or two.

Looking forward to Romero's "Land of the Dead" myself. Hope it doesn't suck (like Romero's "Day of the Dead" LOL). (Seriously, I rewatched "Day" on Sci-Fi channel this weekend. What the hell was he thinking? "Hey, let's make a movie where the heroes are all unlikable idiots."....I was rooting for the zombies in this one. Decent special effects though.)

LOL Isn't "All Soul's Day" a Sci-Fi original film? LOL Mrs. Shep and I have tried watching those before. They're always terrible. Plus Dennis Hopper's in "Land of the Dead." I'll watch him in about anything.

Looking forward to Romero's "Land of the Dead" myself. I don't see how this movie will be any different than Dawn of the Dead or Night of the Living Dead or perhaps any other zombie movie ever made. I don't know I just can't get behind zombie movies. They have nothing about them that makes them unique. Too many are all the same.

The original "Night" and "Dawn" were easily the best IMO. Combative characters in relentless, no-win situations. The thing I like about those two movies was they invited you to ask yourself "what would you do in this situation"? "Dead Alive" is another good one because it spoofs zombie films so well. The kickboxing priest ("I kick arse for the Lord!"), the scene with the guy and baby zombie in the park. LOL Jesus, that's a funny movie! Yeah, no way "Land" is going to be as good, but like a sad junkie I keep coming back looking for that first great high LOL

I don't think I'll be seeing many more summer movies. They mostly look like clunkers.
I'll probably see Batman and Willy Wonka(lots of originality with these two).
Oh...and...*whispers*...(Ebert gave "The Honeymooners" 3 stars! On imdb, it has 1.6 stars!)
*runs*

Do we really need one thread for Summer MOvies of 2005? I think it just becomes a mess, and say you want to talk about Return of the Sith and the last five posts were about The Hooneymooners. I started a thread on Cinderella Man, and that was okay by itself. I think it'd be better if we didn't have just one thread, I think there'd be more and better discussion with the movies in seperate thread. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

The only zombie movie that I really like was Shaun of the Dead. Anyway, the only movie I'm interested in seeing is War of the Worlds, hopefully Spielburg dosen't make this one too weird, like A.I. or Minority Report.

I actually agree with a lot of Eberts reviews, and I think like a lot of reviewrs, he grades on a curve. A Kurosawa is graded on a higher curve - while lightweight summer fare is placed in another grid all together.
I wouldn't let it bug me too much. It aint worth the stress.
I have heard great adavanced reports on Batman, so that's a must see for me. And friends have all enjoyed "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", so I'm looking forward to that one as well.

The only zombie movie that I really like was Shaun of the Dead. i love SotD. romero actually loved simon pegg's film so much that he asked him to have an honorary "zombie" role in LotD. -- and, yes, shep-- it was a sci-fi original. i'm still trying to recover.

I said it before and I'll say it again:
"Do we really need more movies based upon old TV shows?"
I never saw 'Shawn of the Dead' but I really wanted to. Should I rent/buy it even though I haven't seen it?

Should I rent/buy it even though I haven't seen it? I'd give it a rent first, but it's very good. If you've ever seen the British series "Spaced," you'll like "Shaun" because it's essentially the same cast. Everyone who liked "Shaun" definitely needs to see the "Spaced" series.

Do we really need one thread for Summer Movies of 2005? I think certain big movies (SW-Episode III, Batman Begins, War of the Worlds, Fantastic Four, etc.) should have their own threads, but this general Summer Movies thread can be a catch-all for everything else. (There's just too many movies during Summer to have a separate thread for every one.)
