Well we've been saturating the board with these director polls, but I just love them, so here is another one with a nod to a director I personally feel is very much in the Kubrick/Kurosawa league. Ingmar Bergman. This guy has an absolutely massive body of work, so I apologize if your personal favorite had to be encompassed in the Other option. I'll try to hit all the highlights.
Personally I think I'm gonna have to go with Cries and Whispers, quite possibly the most beautifully depressing film ever made.

Wild Strawberries. A wise work of art that stunned me to silent reflection long after it was over.

I know I'm gonna be in the minority, but I thought his version of Magic Flute was just magical. An absolutely charming movie. My second would probably be Virgin Spring (which didn't make the list) and then I'm boring b/c I'll go with Seventh Seal.
But the Magic Flute is something I watched repeatedly and never heard the opera the same way again.

It was a difficult choice between the Cries and Whispers and Persona. So I picked Persona.
Bergman is the director who has meant the most to me the longest. I first saw Wild Strawberries when I was about 15. Then Seventh Seal and Through a Glass Darkly and for many years the latter (Darkly) was my fav film of all time.
Some of Berg's films are seriously flawed but most are very good to great. Whispers has one of the most chilling scenes ever put on film and one of the most moving endings ever. Persona though brings all his themes together in the most orginal way. A hard choice though....
