You know, I have to agree with everything said so far, and I will add a few myself. First let me say that I understand that certain things(effects) are done WRONG to add dramtic tension but when it is just blatantly stupid is when I have a problem. The Thunder/Lightning REALLY irritates me...c'mon that is 7th grade science folks. Cars blowing up ANYTIME someone shoots it....doesn't happen. Even if you can't figure this out for yourself....it's called Mythbusters...check it out sometime.
Granted I go to movies to escape reality which is why I give sci-fi a much wider berth than other genres of movies so I shouldn't nitpick movies. However as a 10 year veteran of the United States Air Force, I really cannot stand when a movie has anything to do with the military and NOBODY seems to know how to wear a uniform or salute properly. That just drives me nuts......sorry I will hop off the soapbox now.

I feel the same way. As an Army guy I laugh when people refer to officers by their rank instead of sir or mam. Or when uniforms are just all wrong. The best example of this is in Basic when Sam Jackson is wearing specialist rank but is supposed to be a master sergeant. That's silly!

How about no sound in space. Only 2001 got that right. Actually, there was no sound in space in the movie Serenity (which rocked) either. But other than that and 2001 I can't think of any other movies like that. Well, no Sci-Fi movies anyway.
