Lon Chaney, Jr actually played all four "biggies" (Wolfie, Frankie, Mummy, & Drac) although there is some debate about 1943's SON OF DRACULA and whether he was playing Dracula or a descendant of Dracula. I was sleepy, but I can't believe I forgot "Son of Dracula". And if anyone wants a copy of a Chaney movie, I have a healthy supply. Including the talking "The Unholy Three".

But then again, I'll watch anything with Bela Lugosi in it. Even The Mysterious Mr. Wong? LOL They show that here on the local PBS channel sometimes (along with Karloff in The Ape). Doesn't it aggravate you when The Brains rag on Lugosi ("It features Bela Lugosi stewing in his own mediocraty"). And keep on about his drug problem. In Plan 9 Mike Nelson keeps saying he's on heroin. He was only addicted to morphine and then methadone and by the time he appeared in that he'd gone through rehab. Pisses me off more than the Max Schreck thing.

This was a hard decision to make -- I love Lugosi, and Vincent Price and Christopher Lee are wonderful as well. But I went with Boris Karloff -- he seemed like such a gentleman and a fine actor, and he had that great voice. Is it wrong that I also thought he was sort of hot? Is it also wrong that when I was a kid I had a crush on Ted Cassidy (the guy who played Lurch)? Hm.

If we're talking strictly from a classic monster movie angle, then I have to go with Boris Karloff, although I feel Vincent Price was the best actor of those listed. But then again, I'll watch anything with Bela Lugosi in it. One mustn't overlook the fact that Lon Jr., despite some later stinkers, was the only one that played all three of the biggies. Lon Chaney, Jr actually played all four "biggies" (Wolfie, Frankie, Mummy, & Drac) although there is some debate about 1943's SON OF DRACULA and whether he was playing Dracula or a descendant of Dracula. No, he was Count Alucard!

It took a while but I voted for Vincent Price. I loved Dr. Phibes.
