Caught this on TCM a few nights ago. A nice little film about an aging Robin Hood (Sean Connery) returning to England after the Crusades for one last hurrah battle against the Sheriff of Nottingham (Robert Shaw), while rekindling his romance with Maid Marian (Audrey Hepburn).
This is the kind of film that could never get made these days, with an offbeat, sometimes poetic script, and a bittersweet ending. Amazing performances (arguably Connery's best ever) and a great supporting cast (Nicol Williamson, Richard Harris, Denholm Elliott, Ian Holm, etc.) make this a must-see.
I generally hate "Robin Hood" movies, but enjoyed this.
Maid Marion: Were there many women while you were on your Crusade? Robin Hood: Yes. (seeing Marion's look of disappointment). They all looked like you.

Great flick! It had everything I like...Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn, romance, a little danger, and a wise approach to understanding that life never turns out the way you dream it will.

hmmm....maybe this is one I should see again. I don't think this is a great film by any stretch of the imagination. Richard Lester was probably not the best choice for director, because the end film is an uneasy mix of drama and comedy--and Lester clearly has trouble keeping all the balls in the air at times. But the quirky screenplay and performances definitely appealed to me. Marian: You never wrote. Robin: I don't know how. LOL
