Since you're still reading the thread, I'll give to real ideas.
1) Basically what I was trying to say earlier, is do something creative while watching movies. Have fun with them, do something with them (if ya wheeeel). 2) Maybe try writing a screenplay. Just for the heck of it. I know you're not looking for a creative output, just to like movies, but I thought I'd suggest it.

I love movies so very much. But after your wife mocked a few I like, I'm so not making recommendations. Don't worry, Nerdie. I'll jump in and recommend on your behalf. If I know anything about Nerdgroupie, I know she'd recommend "This Is Spinal Tap". She thinks it's brilliant satire and a great musical. Your passion for film will come back with a vengeance if you pop in such a classic. Why I oughta... *shakes fist*

OUCH! Gonna make me walk a mile in their shoes, eh? Thanks, VH. I WILL give these serious thought.

This still strikes me as weird, but I find myself losing patience with movies lately. Good, bad, regular, it doesn't matter. I just get antsy. But I don't get it because I spend most of the day reading, so it's not an attention span thing. I just feel like movies either move too slow or don't develop in enough detail (contradictory...). I just have a hard time getting pulled in with visual stories, I guess.

I've been in a book mood myself, mumms. The only things I'll really watch is my documentaries or MST.

I'm going to suggest some movies on a certain theme that for some reason are sure to enthrall me. For lack of a better phrase, "scandal and controversy" films:
Since the identity of Deep Throat has been revealed, watch "All the President's Men" with Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as Woodward and Bernstein.
Michael Mann's "The Insider", about a whistleblower in the tobacco industry.
"Mutiny on the Bounty" has some tough lessons about the human quest for power and authority.
In light of the steroid scandal in baseball, watch "Eight Men Out" directed by Jon Sayles, about the Black Sox scandal.
In light of Rafael Palmeiro's suspension for testing positive for steroids, and the media backlash against him, watch "Breaker Morant", an Australian movie about a group of soldiers who were made into scapegoats for morally questionable acts that were complied with by the authorities at the time.
A more recent film about a spectacular liar is "Shattered Glass", about the journalist for The New Republic who fabricated many of his stories.
These movies are stirring and never fail to put me on the edge of my seat. I hope this helps you.

Here are a few favorites of mine that I'll throw out there. Love 'em or hate 'em, here they are. The only problem with this is the fact that you may have seen them before already, but these films secure my love of movies and always will.
Goodfellas-Long, but one hell of a ride. I never tire of it. My absolute favorite movie of all time.
Jaws-Who would have thought a story like this could have made such a fantastic film. Robert Shaw's performance is the standout for me. Favorite character EVER!
Aliens-This is one of those rare "sequel is better than the original" movies. This is another one that is long but it doesn't seem like it because it keeps me interested the entire time. Probably the best action film I have ever seen.
Jackie Brown-Whenever Tarantino's name comes up you hear Pulp Fiction mentioned. Even though I like that film I actually prefer this one. I thought all of the performances were excellent, and it flowed really well for me. Samuel L. Jackson lit up the screen. I also thought it was really interesting seeing De Niro playing such a low key character. You don't see that too often. A friend of mine who also really likes this film described it as "Awesome conversations". Kind of an odd description but I know what he meant. The dialogue was really good and seemed more natural than Pulp Fiction.
Sin City-This is the most recent film that I've seen that I can tell will be a classic for me when it is released on DVD later this month. Very violent, but also really well done. Worth a look if you haven't seen it.
Maybe you've already seen all of those films, if not they have my recommendation for sure and you should give them a shot.

Oh, if you ever watch Mad Max, make sure it's the Australian language version, because the american dubbed version sounds like crap.
