For my tastes, this is quite a divided bunch of movies. Either they're terrific comedies/dramas (The Apartment, Lawrence Of Arabia, Tom Jones, In The Heat Of The Night, Midnight Cowboy), pure musical blecch (West Side Story, My Fair Lady, The Sound Of Music, Oliver!) or pure boredom (A Man For All Seasons). Of course, any film buff..and Kubrick fan ...knows that My Fair Lady somehow beat out Dr. Strangelove (blasphemy!) and Oliver! beat out 2001....oh wait...2001 wasn't even nominated! (BASTARDS!) Ok...I'm voting for My Fair Lady...at least Oliver! has Oliver Reed in it....and I like Dr. Strangelove too much.

I hate West Side Story. It's one of the worst movies ever made IMO. WHAT GANG SINGS?

As much as 'Sound of Music' annoys me, 'West Side Story' causes me conniptions and spastic colon.

yeah, it's a weird mix from a decade of big changes....
Midnight Cowboy is probably the best of the lot...
Not a big fan of musicals but actually surprised to the vehemence aimed at West Side Story...sure it's corny totatlly unbelievable, etc. but the exhilaration of the dancing is pretty incredible. My Fair Lady is also bareable and kind of charming if way too long. Oliver I haven't seen. Man for all Season haven't seen The Apartment is quite good. Lawrence of Arabia....bleh except for Peter O'Toole who livens any movie Tom Jones...cute but best picture?! Don't think I've ever seen In the Heat of the Night all the way through.
So my vote goes to Sound of Music.
Okay I haven't actually sat through the whole film. Movie buff that I am I tried to once. Jeez Julie Andrews is bland. God is this film boring. I watched bits and pieces and have even seen the "not exciting" conclusion, but I will never never sit through this dreck all in one go...
