The passing of Robert Wise got me to thinking about the Trek films again. I was curious of what all the Trek fans here thought was the best of all ten?
Personally, I like them all for different reasons, but I'm going to have to go with First Contact. All the elements were there: compelling story, great acting, thrilling action, and probably the most memorable villians of the Star Trek legacy since the Klingons.
Out of the original series films, I would have to say Undiscovered Country. It was a cool mystery that bridges the gap between the original series and Next Generation.

I think the best two are Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country, and then First Contact.
The news about Robert Wise's death is sad, but I am glad he was able to revisit Star Trek: The Motion Picture and revise it to closer to what his original vision was in the "Director's Edition" DVD. It is easily one of the most improved movies via a Director's Cut I have ever seen. So, for me, the 4th best ST movie is this "Director's Edition" of the first one. (The original rushed-to-theaters cut from '79, though, I'd put near the bottom of ST films.)

I'm not a major Trekkie, but I always liked the shows and the movies. I'll have to go with First Contact. It's just the one I liked the most for reasons I can't seem to explain.

I also voted for First Contact. I prefer TNG cast to the original (don't shoot me), but mainly because I'm 30 and grew up with Picard. First Contact was the best of that cast's movies.

I prefer TNG cast to the original (don't shoot me) I wouldn't worry about it. TNG is quite popular and the crew is beloved by many Trekkies. If anyone is going to be lynched, it's going to be me. I prefer Archer and his Enterprise crew to any of them.

DON'T HIT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Asking me not to only makes me want to do it more. But seriously, I know I'm in a deep minority, but I thought Enterprise was solid beginning to end. I've even bought the first two seasons on DVD and have three and four pre-ordered.

Blast Torgo, you beat me to making the exact thread.
Although it's a Cliche:
1) Wrath of Kahn (Simply the best one) 2) First Contact 3) Search for Spock 4) Undiscovered Country 5) Voyage Home 6) Final Frontier 7) Nemesis 8) Generations 9) Insurrection 10) The Motion(less) Picture.
Now, People are probably going to wonder why 'Search for Spock' is higher than 'Voyage Home.' The reason is this:
I don't know.
There's something about Search for Spock that I like a lot better than Voyage Home.
Also, I'm sure most of you are amazed at the insanely high spot I put Five in. I love this movie. Not because it's good, but it's so enjoyable. Perhaps I'm just a mascochist, but I like five. Kinda like how I enjoyed Pepsi Blue.
Onto the series (even though the topic was movies, it seems to have strayed to the series as well)
1) The Original Series 2) Voyager - again, for the same reason I like Search for Spock better than Voyage Home - 3) Next Generation 4) Enterprise 5) Deep Space Nine
This is not to say that I don't like DS9, but I never really enjoyed how the series progressed. The dominion war was cool, but when the focus of the series shifted away from exploring and to Bajoran religion, that's when I lost interest.
I am working on getting the Trek DVDs, but since I am but a poor student, I'll probably have to wait until I become a superstar in that incredibly lucriative field of teaching. *surpresses laughter*
If I was going to buy an Enterprise boxed set if I happened to find a couple hundred dollars in my jeans, it probably would be season four. There was only one episode I can think of distinctly that I didn't like ('Bound').
But yeah... I've rambled on long enough...

I don't think I'll be getting the others anytime soon sadly. Anywho, my list would be... 1. First Contact 2. The Undiscovered Country 3. The Voyage Home 4. Generations 5. The Search for Spock 6. The Wrath of Khan 7. Nemesis 8. Insurrection 9. The Final Frontier 10. The Motion Picture I know, it's blasphemous to have Generations above Khan, but I just love Generations for some strange reason. As for the shows... 1. Enterprise 2. The Next Generation 3. Deep Space Nine 4. The Original Series 5. Voyager But I love them all. Although I haven't seen enough of Voyager to put out a fair judgement yet. Hopefully Spike TV will put it on soon.

I hope everyone putting Star Trek: The Motion Picture in last place is basing that on the original theatrical version, which, back in 1979, was rushed into theaters so fast that it was in essence a "rough cut" of the movie, because the pacing was off and some special effects scenes were either badly done or just missing because they weren't completed in time.
But a few years ago, Paramount invited Robert Wise to revisit the movie for its DVD release. Wise, who was never happy with the released version which he considered "unfinished", jumped at this chance to fix the movie. So the editing was tightened up, a number of important character moments were reinstated, and some major special effects scenes were either added or redone according to the original storyboards from 1979. The result was a drastically improved movie. It still has a number of flaws, but it's no longer the cold and infamous "Motionless Picture" anymore.
So if you haven't seen this movie in this improved DVD "Director's Edition" then you should definitely go rent the disc soon!

I've seen it, and although it was an improvement, it wasn't good enough to move any place in my ranking. It still remained a beautiful film to look at, however it was still a film where the characters stared minutes at a time out windows and is still easily the most poorly paced film in the series. Although I'm glad they left that hillarious wormhole sequence in, that didn't really help matters either.
