Rat Race
I thought I'd hate that movie based on the previews. But I was incredibly surprised to see what turned out to be an enjoyable, big budget Hollywood film, complete with several big name folks, strange Smash Mouth musical number and plot that ripped off Mad Mad Mad Mad World. I mean....I see a movie like that, I just plan on not liking it and never watch it.
But when someone made me watch it at a party, I liked it. And it's been a Guilty Pleasure ever since.

Yeah, that's one of mine too. It's a definate guilty pleasure for me.

Rat Race was the last movie to truly floor me (although In Good Company came close). I'd never consider it a guilty pleasure though, but that's just me. I'm into all that zany, physical comedy, and I though Rat Race was just brilliant at it.

It *was* brilliant, and I'd recommend that movie to anyone and everyone, which is something that my uptight and sheltered upbringing rarely allows for in movies like that (The whole Hitler scene alone should have me shun away from that, but it doesn't). But to me it's a guilty pleasure because I think that everyone who hasn't seen it just assumes that it's bad. And at a glance it has all of the elements of a really bad movie. But man....they just did everything so *right* with that one. I think my favorite part is the "Hall of the Mountain King" scene at the airport. Or possibly the demolition truck derby.

Just something I thought I'd never get near, because it wasn't me thing. But I did, and ended up enjoying it.

I thought that Rowin Atkinson (That's the Mr. Bean guy right?) was awsome as the Italian narcoleptic. Also, John Cleese adds clout to most films... so I too enjoyed 'Rat Race.' The whole 'Smashmouth' scene was kind of odd and misplaced though. "HEY! It's... SMASHMOUTH!"

Was it a remake of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World? It was thought to be before it was released, but the cast and crew denied it.

It's not a remake so much as it is similar in many aspects.
The Island is more of a remake of Clonus than Rat Race is a remake of MMMMW.

I caught some of it at the end of a barbecue over the summer and it wasn't bad. Saw the whole thing a few weeks later and really enjoyed it. Same as vh, just something I never thought I'd end up seeing.

Call me stupid, but they still have double features? That's what I call it anyway. I don't know if it's the same thing they had back in the day, but there's a small theater here in town that often shows two movies at once. Pay them eight bucks and you get to watch both. A few weeks ago I went to see Batman Begins (for the second time) and Bewitched.
