I just got done watching the 80s remake of The Fly staring Jeff Goldbum. Wow, I haven't seen a film like that in awhile. The acting is great, the plot is quircky, and the make-up/effects are astounding. Well, enough with boring plot discriptions, I'll talk about what I liked and disliked and add in some flavor with a stinger.
Ups:
Good Cast
Remake that is better than the original
Entertaining
Grusome effects
sick comedy ^_^
Downs:
some of the creature scenes are a little too disgusting and may turn off the more casual viewer.
I absolutly love the character details.
SPOILER******************************************************
At the end when Seth's girlfriend has the gun and doesn't want to shoot him, I could feel some of her sadness. And when the disgusting half fly, half man creature grabbed the gun and pointed it at his head I was cought up in drama(not to get mushy but hey, it's a good film). To bad it ends right after the shooting. I guess thats where The Fly 2 begins.
What makes this movie so good is, each time you see Seth(Jeff Goldbum) he looks worse and worse. Untill you can only imagin what he'll look like next. The guy starts off with a few blisters and zits, then gets dark patches and stiff back hair, then his fingernails start to melt, his skin gets red and vain-like, he then turns into what looks like a red swamp thing, and finally turns into what can only be called "fly man".
Another great thing is that the movie really doesn't rely on blood and guts and nudity like the horror movies of today. It really wants to get the viewer into the story, care about the characters and jump when we next see Seth.
I'd deffenetly reccomend this to anyone who has a likeing for some horror, fun, or just wants a good way to spend an hour and a half. Although, it may be a little to grotest for the younger audience.
4 movie signs out of 4.
