As usual, your knowledge of Kubric is vastly superior to mine in this regard.
Still, it does sound interesting.

I belong to a Kubrick newsgroup, and recently I got an email saying that Kubrick had talked to Terry Gilliam about directing Dr. Strangelove 2 (he actually encouraged Gilliam), it says that proof of this can be found in paper work that belonged to Terry Southern. Has anyone else heard about this? I'm still skeptic about it... I wonder if Gilliam still has the rights to do it - that's be awesome. I'm also very skeptical about this. Though there's little doubt Kubrick may have appreciated some of Terry G's work, from what I've read Kubrick generally loathed sequels. Still, if the paper exists, let's see it. Better still, let's see a whole Kubrick museum with papers, the robot kid they were building for AI, etc.

he didn't fight with Peter Hyams's wishes to make 2010. He should have.

Ratso makes a good point.
Even so, how could you make a sequel to a film like Dr. Strangelove? Unless of course you were a money hungry asshole (i'm not accusing either of that, but that's who would USUALLY make it).

I'm surprised Kubrick actually approved of this - he hand picked Gilliam to helm the project though, so he must have trusted Gilliam to make soemthing out of it. If it's true, then it says less to me about Kubrick's attitude toward sequels and more about how great a director Gilliam really is.

So would the sequel be about people deep underground, waiting out the radioactive fallout, with 10 women for each man?

Of course, with the title, it would probably be put in the porn section by unsuspecting video retail clerks.
This reminded me that I tried to applied for a job at Blockbuster, and failed. My life sucks.
