Seriously, I know it's a "critically acclaimed" film, but is it one that's actually worth me watching? Just trying to see if real people like it or not.

Just trying to see if real people like it or not. As opposed to fake people? I don't see why they'd like it.

It's a classic. Not a personal all-time fav, but very well done, especially for its time.

I didn't care for it. I thought it was kind of boring. I guess if I hadn't went into it expecting so much I might not have been let down like I was. I would say you should watch it tho. It is a classic and you may like it alot of people do.

I'll say it before Mighty Jack sees this thread and goes medieval on you...
Being a movie fan, but not watching Citizen Kane is like being a music fan, but not listening to Sgt. Pepper.
Even if you don't like it, or even if you like other movies better, it's still the most influential film of all time, and you ought to see it.
I like it, but I don't love it. Mainly because the actress who plays Kane's second wife is more shrill than Kathy Ireland in "Alien from L.A." She's more annoying than Pearl in the "CLAAAYYYTON" host segments of "Deathstalker". She's more whiny than Edith & Gloria Bunker combined.
But every other moment in that film is absolutely inspired and worth the hype.

There's a really amazing four hour (!) film out there somewhere which basically breaks down each scene to show why it's awesome. It does this for plot, acting, screenwriting, filmography, etc., and it really makes you realize why professional movie people especially like it so much. It's the kind of thing that opens your eyes to all kinds of things you won't notice if you're a casual moviegoer. Too bad I can't remember what it was called, who made it, etc.

In the recent DVD release, Roger Ebert (love him or hate him) has a very informative commentary track.
He points out a lot of those "inside information" tidbits.

The scene where Agnes Moorehead (playing Kane's seemingly stern mother) calls, "Charlie!" and her voice cracks with emotion is just heartbreaking.
Also notice when she signs the papers to send young Kane away, the little boy falls out of the picture in the background.
Some wonderful stuff in there. And one of Joseph Cotten's finest performances (as Leland).

And one of Joseph Cotten's finest performances (as Leland). I remember one shot in particular where they're in a board room somewhere. It looks like just a regular room until Kane starts walking towards the back wall. And he keeps walking...and walking...and suddenly you get the sense of the sheer scope of the room they're in which is massive. It completely changes the scene from one of small scale disappointment to being reminded of the sheer magnitude of what Kane is trying to do. Awesome.

Being a movie fan, but not watching Citizen Kane is like being a music fan, but not listening to Sgt. Pepper. I guess you can't put it any better than that. Of course I assumed all along that I would end up watching it but I wanted to see the People's Opinion.

Great movie! worthy of all the praise it gets. A overrated film is Sullivan's travels IMO.

It's a great movie. But it has nothing in common with todays movie trends (a good thing) and I could see where many younger viewers might not connect with it.
