Read this before but yeah that is a funny but sad tale. Here's some quotes from the article to give you an idea of what crap was being planned for Superman 5(These quotes are not in the order they appeared in)
"As if that wasn’t enough insanity, Evan Marriott—Joe Millionaire himself—was approached to read for the title role, as were Ashton Kutcher, the aforementioned Hartnett, and Jude Law. Marriott later denied any involvement with the project, and the other three rejected WB’s offer outright."
"And this is where things got REALLY ugly. First off, (Kevin)Smith was taken aback when (Jon)Peters asked him, in all sincerity, "‘Kal-El’? Who’s this ‘Kal-El’ guy you keep mentioning in the script?" Then the insanity really started to take over. Peters demanded that Superman be stripped of his red and blue suit, arguing that the suit was "too pink, too f@ggy." "
"Then, after watching Chasing Amy, Peters liked the gay black character in the film so much that he ordered Smith to make Brainiac’s robot servant L-Ron gay, asserting that the film needed a gay R2-D2 with attitude. Then Peters demanded that Superman fight a huge spider at the end of the film, which Smith refused to do—he used a "Thanagarian Snare Beast" instead. (However, Peters did manage to recycle his spider idea and use it in Wild Wild West.)"
"However, with The Matrix being a big success, Peters and (Lorenzo)DiBonaventura decided that Superman should ditch his red and blue in favor of Matrix-like duds. As such, press blurbs for the new script announced that Superman would be killed off and reborn in a brand-new incarnation, and that the new script would recreate Superman "sans the tights and more Matrix-like." "

The info in it is over a year out-of-date, but I remember when a lot of this stuff was being announced, and all I could do was shake my head.
Luckily, Bryan Singer took over as director and seems to have righted the ship on this project, as his Superman Returns movie will be a direct sequel to Superman: The Movie and Superman II, so most, if not all, of that "re-imagining" crap is out the window.

Man, I'm not a big Superman fan or nothin', but that made me sick. I wanted to throw up. If they do all that stuff, I'm taken my Crow to the theater, pullin down my pants, and riffin' all over that movie.
And the part about Spider-man and all those movies that stay true to the original being forgotten soon... BS! The great thing about these stories is that it has been so long since they have been told on a large scale (movie) that there is a brand new audience for it. And the ones who know it will be excited to see it brought to life in the way that technology allows it to these days. If fricken Hollywood would pull there heads out of there @$$es long enough to see that, they may actually make the money they're trying to make by "re-imagining". <Batman was the dark Knight, not Superman!> Take the X-Men series for example. It's being rushed through 3 movies (it needs at least 5) and the story is suffering greatly. And true, "yellow spandex" may not be the coolest thing in the world but to stay true to the costumes is staying true to the fans. And the fans will recognize this. Just look at the Star Wars fan base. There were a lot of people who were actually upset that they didn't use the Yoda Muppet instead of the much more interacting digital version. Any way, you see where I'm going with this. Stay true to the die hards and the rest will follow. How many of you knew nothing about the "Spider-man" story but loved the movie anyway?

This was one of the sketches being considered for Superman's new look for the movie. You know now that I think about it this could be good for the Caption this section.

I think we all have to admit that, maybe apart from Captain America, Superman has got to be one of the hardest comic book movies to pull off now. I mean...an alien comes to save...America? And his costume never looked cool, no matter how much Christopher Reeve pulled off some other cool things.

The ad for it before Goblet of Fire made me cross.

I don't think they'll ever top the original "Superman: The Motion Picture," which was pretty decent (especially loved the scenes with Brando and Glen Ford as Superman's two fathers).
The way Hollywood is run today, it's virtually impossible to get anything really creative made. The suits have way too much control and they want "tried and tested formulas" that will appeal to the average idiot and make lots of $$.

You know what was a bad movie? Steel. He was my favorite substitute Superman, and they messed his story all types of up!

This is a photo from the official Superman Returns website. Although the new Supes is a bit skinny, they didn't screw up the suit:

The only real problem I have with this film is that I heard "General Zod" was going to be the villain. That's just ridiculous IMO. Ok, this film is the sequel to Superman 1/2 why the hell are they recycling villains? Granted Superman doesn't have the most impressive rogues gallery in the comic book world... but he still has some pretty good ones. Bizarro, Darkseid, Brainiac, and Mr. Myzplytyk.
I would love to see any of those guys in the movie.
This General Zod thing is probably just some stupid rumor but, I must complain about it anyway.

Where did you hear this rumor about Zod? As far as I can recall Bryan Singer has always said it was going to be Luthor (played by Kevin Spacey). Maybe you're reading spoilers for Smallville by accident because he is scheduled to appear on there sometime this season.

LOL! That guy is wayyyyy too skinny for Superman. Couldn't they at least us CGI to buff up his muscles or something? Hey Christopher Reeves was not the most muscular guy in the world...and I think he turned out fine. The villain is actually Lex Luthor, not Zod. Where did you hear this rumor about Zod? As far as I can recall Bryan Singer has always said it was going to be Luthor (played by Kevin Spacey). Maybe you're reading spoilers for Smallville by accident because he is scheduled to appear on there sometime this season. I read the rumor last week on about 3 or 4 sites, I think it got started because of the summary on ComicBookmovie.com. It says this... The only other villain from Krypton I can think of is Eradicator. But who even knows if this info is right? I'm so damn confused.
