The Island.
And I know this has been discussed before but I just wanted to add my 2 cents now that I actually have seen it. But Mods if you judge this to be redundant or something...lock it, move it, delete it, I tried searching and all it came up with is stuff about the show "Lost"
While the movie in and of itself wasn't terrible, I could not enjoy it, if for no other reason than it is such a blatant rip off of "Parts...".
And did I read that the producers of "Parts" actually lost their lawsuit? If that is the case....Man what a miscarraige of justice. If the makers of "The Island" didn't outright break the law they sure raped the spirit of the law.
Again sorry...I know this is redundant but I just saw the stupid movie

Slappy, you're the first person who's admitted to seeing it, and I'm most interested to hear a first person account. And this first-person account says it's a rip! I can't believe the producers of Parts lost either! Well, maybe the revenge is in the box office. (The critics seemed to revile Island more than Parts.)

I have never cared what critics say...I don't have the "high browed" taste in movies that alot of people seem to have. I like to watch movies to escape reality..not to be preached to be made to feel guilty about something. I know, I know most movies have messages but whatever I don't care, if the movie is well made or I am interested in story then I like it if not then I don't.
I say that because again if I had never seen "Parts..." then I woul have said that this movie was an OK action movie....I have seen worse.
But I have seen "Parts" and I was pissed. I was constantly pointing out parallels to my wife while we were watching this. Substitute "America" for "the island", "important people" with "rich and important people", "Old Milwaukee can" with "the butterfly" , Keenan Wynn with Steve Buscemi (sort of)....the list goes on....to me, these are the same movie with different budgets.

I actually saw it in theaters. I thought it was a good movie itself (I don't know where you got this "The Island is reviled thing," but from my understanding, it was very well recieved by critics), but as an action film, it just felt akward because of how naive the characters were. And yes, it is a blatant rip off of Parts.

I can't believe the Parts people lost. They were going to take us out to dinner with their huge cash settlement.

Last I heard from Myrl Schreibman, the lawsuit is continuing and they are determined. Yes, they lost the injunction, the reason the DVD of The Island is available now. That has not deterred them in trying to make the, obvious, case that The Island is a Clonus ripoff.
