I like video games. I hate movies based on video games. Has there ever been a halfway decent movie? I don't think so. Mortal Kombat was the best one, and it was really quite mediocre. Are there any games that could make a good movie or any promising game movies in the works?
I heard they were making a Metroid movie, which really saddens me. The mood of the game is created by the sheer isolation, which can't be emulated in a movie if they plan on having more than one character.

no way. I can't think of one decent video game movie. I remember the Super Mario Brothers atrocity with Bob Hoskins. I fear for this Dungeon Siege movie. ffs, Uwe Boll is directing it!

I've never actually seen a Uwe Boll movie, but from what I understand, he has done for the movie industry what Dr. Kevorkian has done for medicine.

Ooh, I'll vote for that. I love the Zelda series, and easily, their structure would work well for a movie...IF done correctly. You've got the quest structure, where it's already done in the format of: Hero travels through various places, meeting more and more dangerous....dangers, until finally the main villian is the biggest challenge of all. That's the classic rising action and then climax thing of storytelling, right? Right.
Not to mention, in this case, weird creatures, costumes, the whole dramatic sword-and-sorcery atmosphere, special effects, castles...it would be a feast for the eyes if done right.
And the "Final Fantasy" movie....sucked because IT HAD ABSOLUTELY _NO_ CONNECTION TO _ANY_ OF THE WHOLE ENTIRE HUGE SERIES OF GAMES!! Seriously, you have no idea how much that bugs me. All these great plotlines and characters already out there for them to choose from, and which do they choose? NONE of them! Even a movie based off of the way-too-popular Final Fantasy 7 with, say, Leonardo diCaprio playing Cloud*, would've been better than a movie based off of the Final Fantasy _name_ and absolutely nothing else. Feh, I say. Feh.
...Notorious
*I can _see_ this, actually...!

They are making a Halo movie. It could be really good because Peter Jackson is producing it. Also the game developers made a list of demands the movie company had to give into before they had permission to make the movie. This one has hope at least.
The Silent Hill movie looks good too. Although you probably have to be a fan of the game to appreciate the movie.

It started with "Clue" and has gone downhill from there.

The movie Twister sucked. It had nothing to do with putting your left hand in a green circle. I was severly disappointed that Bill Paxton did not once place his right foot on the red circle. There wasn't even any suspense in whether or not Helen Hunt could reach the red circle without falling over. There is no hope for movies based on games....
(or VIDEO games for that matter)

If I could make a movie on a video game, I'd make it Zelda: Ocarnina of Time. I'd try to capture in the film the feeling of the game, make it beautiful and of course make it faithful to the story line without making it too fast paced or too slow. If there ever was a game that had cinematic potential, it's Zelda. I think that too. When I saw Howl's Moving Castle, a lot of it put me in mind stylistically of the Zelda series. That could definitely work, but would it? Probably not.

Zelda is too good a game to put it through that kind of punishment. Potential is nothing. Resident Evil had potential until someone turned in a script.

Yes, but that was Uwe Boll.
I think Zelda could work. It just needs to have a tribunal of Zelda fans from the online community review the script prior to actual production beginning (I feel I have a right to say this as I'm not a member of the online Zelda community).
I'm still holding out for a Zork movie to be made. That could rock. But on the other hand, I don't think the mainstream audiences could really appreciate it.

I couldn't write a Zelda movie. I'd end up making it either intentional self-parody, or I'd unintentionally make it too moody and dark.

Mortal Kombat was about the best video game movie I've seen. I still can't get the atrocity that was Street Fighter out of my head (shame on you Raul Julia!) I've always hoped for a Chrono Trigger movie. Not Japanamation though, CGI only!

StreetDreamer, I was hoping they'd reissue Chrono Trigger for GBA. I've still got the SNES cartridge - and the SNES to play it on!
DQ, I'm sorry. (After Murder By Death, I was looking forward to something funny, and I found Clue forced at best.)

I think it's more fun PLAYING Zelda than it would be watching a movie about Zelda.
