I just think it's a shame that that whole experience we used to have is gone....in more ways than one.
It's like watching Rocky Horror at home on video rather than in a theater with a bunch of rowdy "Transylvanians".....just not the same.

Too true, Rebel.
What can you say about seeing a beach party movie at a drive-in??
Or the original 13 Ghosts WITH the ghost viewer in the theater!! Or Hitchcock's Psycho in a theater without knowing anything about it.
Ebert said that some films should be seen in the theater just for the experience. (This was at the start of a Gamera review!) Destroy All Monsters is like that. The Marx Brothers also benefit greatly projected on a big screen. (Harpo is brilliant.)
Eraserhead is a film that needs to be seen in a theater with an audience.
So is 2001 and Clockwork Orange.
I could go on, but I'll stop.

The multi-plex, yes, Doc. I'm talking about the 50s and 60s, when the theaters were theaters and had good sized screens in a good sized room.
And of course, the drive-ins.

There was an article about this in the Tribune today (4/15/06). Someone other than us is finally taking note!
