I just saw The Hills Have Eyes remake... Ok...two things: A) When I went to the theaters to see this, I wasn't so much horrified by the movie as I was by, get this, there were about LITERALLY 20 little kids, SOME OF THEM INFANTS, in the theater watching The Hills have Eyes!!!! WHAT THE **** IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE! I FELT LIKE KICKING EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR PARENT'S ASS!!!! $@$@$*^(@$(@$*@*$^(*@*$(#(*@!(($@($@($(@$@ B) I'm not going to see new movies anymore. Not only is the new Hills Have Eyes a blatant rip-off of Straw Dogs, it just sucked. It was more sick than scary. And again, it felt EXACTLY the same as every other MTV style horror film. It sucks, **** Hollywood, **** EVERYONE! DON'T TAKE INFANTS TO SEE MOVIES THAT CONTAIN HILLBILLIES RAPING WOMEN, SHOOTING GRANDMAS, DRINKING THE BLOOD OUT OF BIRDS, POITING GUNS TO BABIES HEADS, HACKING UP PEOPLE WITH AXES, DEFORMED BABIES AND EXTREME VIOLENCE! WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE! *)(*#&$(*)(*$&(*#*&($(*(*&)$*&)(#&)(*@(&)$#& (*&$(*#(*&$#&(*#)(&*$(*(*&$*)(&$((&*$ !!!!!!!! [/rant] Unless you're in West Virginia...then you can just take you're baby for a walk and see all that...wa wa wa.... But you've actually made me want to see this, Dr. Really it can't be that good...

I hope every one of those kids had nightmares and kept their parents up all night. Although they'd probably just go rent the Texas Chainsaw Massacre to pass the time. Weirdos.

I remember when my friend saw the The Passion of the Christ and he was telling me that this crazy religious mother was forcing her kids to watch Jesus get tortured. And everytime he got hit she said..."NOW YOU SAY THANK YOU"
Future generations are going to turn out very interesting.
But thanks Forrest, I was thinking about seeing this movie but now I'm not.

It was nothing for a car to pull up in front of the theater and 8 kids get out and all pay children's prices to go in WITHOUT an adult. My aunt and uncle ended up pretty much baby sitting the whole town. But with the films back then, you really didn't have to worry, did you? Monster movies had rubber monsters. If this is what they are letting kids watch nowadays, I am sorry for the next generation.

When I went to the midnight showing of the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre I also saw about a dozen of little children there. It's bad enough that it's the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but why the hell are parents bringing their kids to a midnight showing of it!

I used to watch movies like "Friday the 13th" and the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" with my dad when I was little. And before you say "That explains it", he did something that the parents of those kids probably don't bother to do-he explained everything to me, including how it was fake and why such behavior in real life was horrible. I learned a lot about movies and morality from having someone take the time to TALK to me.
These kids were probably plopped down with their popcorn and candy and told to shush. It makes me really angry. I'm right there with you, Dr.

Dr. Montana is quite correct. Why don't those stupid people get a babysitter? If they can't afford a decent sitter, or don't know anyone they can trust, then why can't they wait till the stupid movie comes out on DVD or something?!

Heck, my dad even explained the violence in Warner Bros. cartoons for me. It really helped.
Here's a funny story for you, Dr.-I don't remember this really well, but when I was about four, my mom and I were at home and she was cleaning the bathroom. I was in the living room and she heard me giggling in the living room and came out to see what I was watching. It was "Friday the 13th 2", and Jason Voorhees was killing someone. I guess Mom asked me what was so funny, and my response was something along the lines of "Daddy told me that's fake-people don't bleed like that when they really get cut in the head". Apparently Dad got quite a talking to when he got home.
The slasher genre has never scared me, even when I was little, because I got the absurdity factor even then. Then again, I vividly remember watching a special on Jack the Ripper once when I was younger and it scared me so bad I remember huddling on the floor against my bed in absolute panic. They had shown the famous photo of Mary Kelly, and the fact that she had been pregnant when she died had pushed me over the edge. An Unsolved Mysteries story about Rudolph Hess gave me nightmares for months. I hadn't lost my sensitivity to the misery of others-in fact, real horrors are what scared me most. And I understood what they are because of my dad.
Most kids are sheltered and desensitized from the wrong things and in the worst ways possible. I get so upset when I see kids in a theater looking petrified by what is going on up on the screen. I got a chewing out from one parent once for actually leaning over to tell their child it was fake! That's why I myself can't go to horror flicks in theaters anymore.

These wonderful, responsible parents think that baby sitting goes with the price of the ticket.

Not to be contrary, but I was introduced to horror films quite young.
I love horror films, and I love to be scared by them. I grew up watching vampire films, and being a child of the 80's, I got most of the horror by watching VHS. I also was lucky enough to see some horror films by way of the drive in. I think I turned out ok.

Yes, I also grew up watching horror/slasher/splatter films from a very young age. And I turned out JUST FINE.
I agree about the Hills Have Eyes remake though, and how funny that you mentioned Straw Dogs, because at that one part where the guy was all bloody and filmed from below and there was that ridiculous swell of triumphant music, I thought, "Hey, it's a Straw Dogs moment!" And then I thought, "I'm HUGE!" Heh. I did think the film looked good, and the mutant makeup was well done, but other than that it just seemed kinda pointless and silly.

I remember seeing Little Big Man when I was about five or six. When the Indian woman and her baby get shot it really deeply affected me in a way no horror film ever has. I watched a lot of horror films, some pretty gorey though not slasher stuff {that wasn't around yet} when I was a kid but it's Little Big Man that sticks with me.

That's true. Slashers never scared me much cause they are totally absurd for the most part. Can't believe someone got mad at you for trying to comfort their terrified child with the fact that it wasn't real - are people that xenophobic these days? No, they don't like the implication that they're bad parents. You'd think they'd worry more about the long-term effect on their child then the short-term effect on their ego.
