Turner Classics ran this.
Produced by Carl Laemmle, Jr., directed by James Whale and music by Franz Waxman.
Robert Young, Edward Arnold and Constance Cummings (and Arthur Treacher as the butler!).
VERY strange throwback, when sophisticates had drinks in one hand and cigarettes in the other. Spoiled, rich socialites drink and have fun until there's a murder and everyone's so hungover they don't remember what happened.
Whale's touches are incredible. The cast is quite adept and off the cuff, and are very good at playing drunk.
[SIDENOTE: IMHO, the best screen drunk is William Powell in the original The Thin Man. Nick Charles is drunk (in various stages) throughout the whole film, and he's quite good.]
If you can catch this on again, I recommend watching it. VERY interesting period piece, and a lot of fun.

Sounds excellent. I like Whale's stuff a lot. Will try to catch this. Though my fave screen drunk was probably Dudley Moore in the original "Arthur." Rock Hudson was also excellent in the party scene in "Seconds"--though he really was drunk! LOL

Thank you for the notes on this movie. I would watch it for just the Waxman music alone!
