Gas-s-s is a movie you literally need to see to believe. One of Roger Corman's counter culture films, the plot focuses around a small group of young people trying to find a place to stay after a deadly gas kills everyone over 25. They are fueled by their passion for peace, their hope for humanity, and a soundtrack by Country Joe MacDonald.
See, with the people over 25 dead, society has to be rebuilt. There are many groups of people trying to rebuild the world using the "Old" methods of gaining power and influence. These are violent methods, as we see through the football team-turned-fascist conquerer/nomads.
The Hells Angels have a better idea. They will reinvent the capitalist systems in a world where there is no capital. Still, the take our heroes on their upscale Yuppie country club and have them work towards the American dream.
Our heroes, of course, simply want to live their lives. Which is hard when every where you turn, their is some irrellevent humor. Some more absurd then others. After all, we do need a better term for making love then "screwing."
Luckily, they have God on their side. No, seriously. God is a character. Along with a motorcycle riding Edgar Allen Poe.
I don't think this moive will change your life, but I do think you will have something to reflect on.
"A good woman is like a steel brush. Think about it."

A motorcycle-riding Edgar Allen Poe? Intriguing.

You failed to mention cast members: Talia Shire, Ben Vereen, Cindy Williams and Bud Cort.
I remember this film at the drive-in.

I DID forget the cast! I feel bad now. OH, yes, it was a pretty amazing cast for a low budget feature. But, it was a Corman film, so that's expected.
Of course, my favorite actor in ther was Country Joe MacDonald as A.M. Radio.
(folk fan)

I was a folk fan, too. Country Joe was a hippie. A dirty, stinking commie hippie. Of course, I had every CJ&The Fish album.

Hey, nothing wrong with commie hippies. It's them Stalinists you need to look out for.
Commie Hippies, despite their foul smell, are a decent lot, and are pretty harmless. However, certain rules of caution are in order.
1. While in their territory, back your own food and drink your own water 2. While it may seem rude to not accept their gifts, do not accept their gifts. 3. Always remember, if you want to sit in, get the lingo. See: Mark Borschardt, Tommy Chong.
