My criteria has always been:
"Was I entertained watching this movie"
Not what form the entertainment came in, just was I entertained.
I loved all the Star Trek movies except for V
I loved ALL of the Star Wars movies - Yes even the prequels...I don't give a rats patootie that Lucas made "SPecial Editions" I like those too with the exception of Greedo shooting first.
I do NOT like the fact that SPielberg went back and messed with E.T. simply because it was such an unrealistic and politically correct change - Yeah Extra-Terrestrials are in the neighborhood and NOBODY is gonna run around with their weapons drawn, only their walkie talkie...PLEASE
I love movies that allow me to escape for a couple of hours......I hate movies that lack any sort of subtlety in presenting a viewpoint or message....A couple of the nominees in the "Best Picture Category" this year fall under this heading....I want to be entertained and maybe learn something...NOT be preached too
Again all I need is to be entertained
Thank You, Won't You

If it says anything about me, I just got 8 VHS tapes from Troma. At $1.00 a piece. First up was Cannibal: The Movie. "The sky is blue and all the trees are green..."
The rest I've never seen.

My way of looking at it is this. I have absolutely NO right to tell people what to like. I HATED Fight Club, yet a lot of people absolutely loved it. I absolutely adore many films that get trashed all of the time. I could give a poopie though, because I like what I like and I'm not at all apologetic about it. I loved Hostel, and I can guarantee there are many people who think it's awful. It's all personal opinion and NO ONE is going to tell me what I can and cannot like.

I totally stick out around here. I Love Star Wars, but hate Star Trek (boring to me). I have see ONE Kubrick film (Full Metal Jacket) and was unimpressed and I have no interest in seeing any of his others. I love the popcorn flicks. Huge RE fan here (have BOTH on DVD, Hudson Hawk, too). If a movie entertains me, takes me along for a good ride, and does not beat me over the head with a message (Constant Gardener, for example), I will like it. And I could not care less what others think about it. I never claimed to have taste and it also means less people wanting to borrow my DVDs. So, like what you like.
