Frankenstein wasn't nearly as bad with cinematography... That and some of the worse scenes had your attention all over the frame anyway, as opposed to just part of it. But on the other hand, compared to Bride of Frankenstein, it's like it's filmed with a still camera.... It's very good, too. Una O'Connor is a bit hard to take but Whale loved her so.... But you'll admit there's a fine line. Some directors and/or cinematographers only end up making you deadly aware that what you're watching is a movie. And that can backfire especially when you're asking your audience to get so engrossed in your story that you'll believe the fantastic aspects.

I think 2001 is still the best, though, no surprise coming from me. I think 2001 blows away every other film mentioned in this thread. Believe it or not I have never seen 2001. When I was home last summer Turner Classic Movies was running all classic sci-fi every Tuesday. I was running out of tape and I only had room for one more movie so I had to chose between The Blob and 2001. The Blob won.

Whether it stands up to repeat viewing is a matter of taste. The Blob on the other hand is fun viewing so....you probably made the right choice.

Check out the remastered DVD. Did they get rid of the infamous reflection? And remember....most of what you're seeing is subplot.

Well, when in first came out in Cinerama, man, you just kinda dropped before the film and went in, and oh, man it was awesome with the huge curved screen, you were like in it, man.
(or words to that effect . . . )
