I'm not sure whether it should be number 1 or not, but Passion of the Christ is rightfully on the list. Lots of people loved it, lots of people hated it, tons of mainstream attention and discussion. The accusations of anti-Semitism. Arguments whether the movie was exploitative vs. sincere.
Hell, Mel Gibson arguably screwed himself right out of Hollywood just by making this movie.

I want to know why the f*** Aladdin is on that list. They better have a better reason than the half-assed one stated in the article.

Aladdin doesn't make any sense.
If you want to include a controversial animated film, then it should be "Song of the South".

The reason for Aladdin was some lyric in a song that upset the Arab people that they had to change. I had never heard about that until i saw the list so i agree it has no reason being there.

I knew about the lyric a long time ago, and while I wish it was left in the final film, how does one sentence that is not even featured make it one of the most controversial films of all time?

If you're going to mention a Disney movie you should at least go all out and bring up all the supposed profanity and sexual-innuendo hidden throughout the movie. "Take off your clothes" and the monkey shouting out "poopie!" and such.

Well, if you want to be SERIOUS, then yes, this is true. No dvd release due to the controversy. "Uncle Remus" has become a slanderous term in some circles. What is accepted an an uncomfortable stereotypical portrayal of African Americans.
But I think it's silly personally. This strikes me as one of those things that's only as offensive as you want it to be.
EDIT: That's not to undermine the controversy though. The controversy is genuine. I'm just speaking my own opinion about the film.

With the money the movie made, do you think he really screwed himself out of Hollywood? The accusations of anti Semetism were probably just as made up to sell tickets as Miramax refusing to distribute Fahrenheitn 9-11. See, we get a few people to shout "Anti Semetism" and the film is sold already based on controversy. So it probably was started by the people involved in the first place. Just like how Michael Moore claimed Miramax refused to distribute his film when that was not really part of the deal to begin with.

How does the money he made have anything to do with the fact that he hasn't been in anything significant since that movie came out? There's absolutely no relationship there.

Your missing the number one point I was making:
Controversy sells.

Yeah the whole point of the list is which films were controversial. Non-studio-low budget movies aren't controversial because nobody sees them and it's easy for the media to ignore them.
I'd say that many of the movies on this list deserve their spot because I recall the buzz in the media when they came out.
Basically they had me to Alladin.
