This is probably going to be a hard one and I apologize if there isn't enough details to go on.
There was a movie that played on television that Mom liked and she encouraged me to watch with her, but I somewhat balked at doing so at the time because the movie guides didn't rate the film all that generously (I was being a snob). I watched the film in the 1990s, so it was clearly a film made in the 1980s. I believe the general plot is about a woman being taken captive by a disturbed loner / hermit. The loner's father plays a significant role, trying to defend his son to the captive woman. I believe the movie ends with the woman making an escape attempt and chase, which ends with the father reluctantly killing his son.
I understand I might have just described the plot to 400 movies, but if anyone has a good idea of what the exact movie is that I'm talking about, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

This plot intrigued me, so I inquired about it elsewhere. This is what my sources suggest: www.imdb.com/title/tt0090578/Is this it? I would like to check it out.

This plot intrigued me, so I inquired about it elsewhere. This is what my sources suggest: www.imdb.com/title/tt0090578/Is this it? I would like to check it out. The plot synopsis on IMDB and the casting choice of Dan Haggerty seems to indicate that your suggestion might be on the mark. It's a pity, though, that I have no means of verifying this with my own eyes as the movie is not commercially available. So, I'll have to consider that my inquiry has been answered and I'll just have to keep an eye out for it to ever become available. Thanks, Deckard!

If you're directing me to a website that I can download the movie, I'm afraid I need to pass on that. I appreciate the gesture.

There were also stills on the page.
But since it did contain a bootleg link, had to get rid of it. We're already bending Proboard rules enough with the tape trading, so we gotta be careful about bootlegs.

There's a couple of Three Stooges shorts that I'm wondering if our board members can identify.
In one short, the boys are in some building fleeing from a criminal, monster, or gorilla. At one point, Moe and Larry are successfully hidden while Curly is out in the open. Either there's a bang or the two try to get Curly's attention. The noise prompts Curly to drop to the floor and do his floor spin (where he has one shoulder planted to the floor and he uses his feet to scurry around in a circle).
In another short, Curly is wearing a fez and goes to a restaurant. He has an alcoholic beverage that causes him to spin in his seat every time he takes a sip. He later has an oyster stew which has a live oyster that keeps eating his crackers.
There's one more short that I've seen part of on YouTube. The boys are in the air on a plane that Curly is slowly dismantling. Moe tells Larry to roll him a cigarette, but it ends in failure and Larry just gives him one of his stogies. Later, the plane is barreling towards the ground. Moe and Curly are embracing in fear. Larry remarks, "Hey, are you guys going steady?" Moe immediately remarks with a slap.
Thanks for your help!

I'm a big stooges fan, but it turns out I've only seen roughly half of what they've done. However, what I have seen I know like the back of my hand. I've watched them over and over since I was a kid. This one you mention is Dutiful But Dumb, where the boys visit Vulgaria as paparazzi. Curly hides inside a large radio and has to play a one man bad song to fool the bad guys. It's pretty funny. But the soup scene is the best. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutiful_But_Dumb

Adding in to what Frameous said, the short was released in 1941 and is currently available on the Three Stooges Collection Volume 3 DVD set (just to make it easier to find). Or in case you're looking for VHS (pretty unlikely, but still...) it was featured on the volume called Movie Maniacs.
I concur that it's a pretty good one. In addition to the oyster scene it also featured a hilarious sequence where the boys try to snap photos of movie stars and the sequence where Curly hides in a radio is a personal favorite.

I've got one for you Golden Age of Hollywood fans. It's a black and white movie from the 30s or 40s, about a suicidal guy who stands out on a ledge and threatens to jump. The whole movie then becomes about the media frenzy that builds up around him, and the crowd that gathers at the foot of the building, some of whom seem to be rooting for him, others hoping that he'll jump. It felt a bit Billy-Wilderesque, like Ace in the Hole/The Big Carnival. The way i know it's not Wilder is that it has an optimistic ending: When the guy's talked off the ledge, the audience cheers. I thought it was called something like "The Thirteenth Story" or "The Thirteenth Floor," but obviously I don't mean the more recent movie with a similar name. Anyone heard of this?

I'm wondering if someone can help me find this Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies short.
A prisoner tunnels his way out of his cell. However, he miscalculates where he's supposed to tunnel up from and ends up emerging inside the warden's television set. So, the prisoner attempts to keep up a ruse by emulating the various events on the television stations.
If anyone knows what short I'm talking about, it would be appreciated. Thanks!
