OK, I'm back.
Wow.
As has been said by others already, I'm going to need to chew on this a bit. But yeah, I thought it was spectacular.
I'll expand my thoughts as soon as I can, but for now, I need to digest.

Just a few quick things. Endgame was a great deal of fun. I think I like it about as well as Infinity War, though they really are to halves of the same story, so they will always be tied together at the hip. The run time didn't bother me much at all. It was a fast three hours. The only thing is that at that length, I start to lose track of time and have a hard time guessing how far into the movie we are. It can be disorienting. But the movie is never boring, so it's not much of a complaint. I had about 40 people in my theater for a Tuesday-after-opening-weekend afternoon, just enough to have a lot of people and still be spread out around the theater. And it being discount Tuesday, if I include the $1 bottled water I sneaked in, the whole affair cost me about $8. That's a theater trip I can live with. Now for some spoiler points: * It was a fine ending for Stark. Even though he's not my favorite MCU character, his final moments were fantastic. He didn't even say anything after his snap. It was heartbreaking. Pepper and Peter talking to him after was almost too much to handle. And the funeral. Good god. I held up pretty well through the whole thing. One complaint - the jag off that decided the funeral scene was the time to really rustle around his popcorn tub and eat like he just escaped a desert island. Everyone else in the theater was dead silent. How could you even think of eating at a time like that?
* Captain America's finish was very nice and moving. I'm glad he got the life he wanted, even if in Age of Ultron it sounded like that wasn't for him anymore. Not that people can't change, but I noted it. Speaking of Cap...
* Time travel. OK, if I've got one beef with this movie, it would be the time travel aspect. Not that it was done poorly - it wasn't - it's just that they did it at all. They have some fun with it, rattling off time travel movies and such. It was a rumor that I hoped wasn't true, or it if was true that it would be a minor plot point. Nope, it was the plot point. Still, that's OK. But come on, how do you not mention Lost when Evangeline Lilly is in the freaking cast! Lost even had a humorous scene where characters discuss how time travel works - just like the Avengers did! Come on, Russos, get it together!
* Deaths are deaths. Vision, Black Widow, Gamora, Loki, Heimdall, the Warriors Three, Sif. None of them come back, because their death wasn't part of the snap. I thought this was done pretty well, too, with Hulk saying he tried to bring Nat back but couldn't. Just vague enough to make that believable, I think. Stil, I loved Vision, and it was cool to see the butler Jarvis in the Tony/Howard scene. I didn't see - did Bettany play that role or was it someone else?
* And hey, the return of the snapped heroes? The Battle of Wakanda was impressive, but wow did this outdo it. Though I have questions. Like where did Valkyrie get her horse/pegasus? But it's a long movie, I probably missed some things. But that army massing behind Cap. Eff yeah. Throw in him wielding Thor's hammer and his "Avengers Assemble," it's a scene that won't leave me anytime soon.
* I agree, I think Bucky should have taken up the Captain America role, just because he's part of that super-serum world. Sam is a great guy, but he's a guy in a much-weaker Iron Man suit. But if he's the new Cap, I'm on board.
I'm thinking a second viewing would help me keep a lot of this straight, but those are the thoughts I have at the moment. Had a great time. It was worth going, and it was a great "ending" to the story 20+ movies deep. I think I'm going to enjoy the break, though. At least until Doctor Strange 2.

I thought it was good, but not great. Maybe I'm just suffering from M.U. fatigue, but I had a difficult time staying engaged. It had some real funny bits, nice drama and it checked off all (or most) of the boxes it needed to. It didn't do anything out and out wrong, I just wasn't drawn in as I should have been, and the time travel, grab the stones stuff was a chore But that final act... that perked me right up. That's what saved the movie for me. The range of emotion we had here, from cheers to tears. All of a sudden I went from, "yeah, this is fine" to "Holy crap! My heart can't take much more of this excitement and what-not." But what an ambitious undertaking. I might have burnt out on it, and probably need to reassess it all in a few years. But I've never seen anything like this in all my years. I have read that they are going to do some stand-alone movies after this, which I think is a good idea. A special guest is fine, but not an 11 year event. Question? Who was standing behind the kid from Iron Man 3, at Tony's funeral? There were two people, in front of the porch, behind the kid. The camera moved off them and onto those standing on the porch, before I could get a good look at them? and Mod, as to popcorn jagoff maybe he was just trying to swallow back his tears and stifle his howls of grief?

and Mod, as to popcorn jagoff maybe he was just trying to swallow back his tears and stifle his howls of grief? Heh, a decent point. We don't all deal with grief in the same way. And it's easy to judge. I didn't have any popcorn myself, but if I did, I wouldn't have been eating because I was too busy biting my lower lip to keep it together. If you need to stuff your face to keep it together, hey, I get it.

While I wasn't fond of the 3D (I don't think it was real-D, but done post production) during that whole deal I was thinking, "Thank God for these dark glasses, because my eyes are leaking like a sieve.

Just a few more thoughts: * How could I forget about my main man, Doctor Strange? His role in this is fairly small, but of course that's understandable as he played a pretty big role in Infinity War. Still, the moment when he comes through the portal (along with his fellow masters) during the final battle got me going, even though I suspected something like that would happen. And him signaling "one" to Tony? As in "there's only one way this works out" was enough to put a lump in my throat. Oh, and the Ancient One blasting Banner out of the Hulk was also fun. Cool meeting between characters.
* Speaking of the portals, it feels like there's almost another whole unseen act of the movie about the team that gets unsnapped. Peter Parker was telling Tony about how he must have passed out but he woke up and "Doctor Strange was there and he said come on it's been five years and they need our help and then he did that sparkly thing with his fingers..." Obviously it would ruin the big entrance at the end, but I'd love to see Strange, Parker and Guardians rallying everyone together. I heard they had Ravagers in that final army. How the heck did they do that so fast? Just think of all the first-time meetings that take place behind the scenes with that group.
* I was a little surprised to see Ross at the funeral, but it makes sense. Tony signed the accords, and though they probably didn't see eye-to-eye on everything, they did play on the same team when you get down to it. Thought it was very cool to see him there. And the kid from Iron Man 3 was there, who I would never have recognized if it hadn't been pointed out to me online. Oh, and Hank Pym was there. I was happy to see that, too.
* And there are some great moments with the score. The lead up to the final battle, with the heroes returning, I think it's called "Portals," was absolutely perfect. I like Silvestri, even though he gets overshadowed by John Williams (hey, understandable). Still, his work on Avengers will go down as some all-time classic stuff. Again, I'll never forget it.

Too soon?
There are big Endgame spoilers in this, just a heads up for anyone who hasn't seen it.
Intriguing. I realize Mysterio is a villain in the comics, and will likely end up being one here in some form or another, but I'm liking what I see of him and his power set so far. And it's still weird to me to see Jon Favreau still acting in these movies after he kicked off the MCU by directing Iron Man. But hey, he's a pretty good actor, so why not?

I think it looks great. The more I see of this movie, the more it's winning me over. The one thing that drives me batty about the trailer though is when MJ tells Peter he thinks him being Spider-Man is "obvious." I just want to take Sony's advertising department and smack them with a newspaper. Save stuff like that for the movie!
Anyway, I'm behind on posting YouTube videos. The tidal wave of Endgame content has been overwhelming, plus I've been exhausted. But let's start with Mr. Sunday's breakdown of the Far From Home trailer:
Here are some trailer reactions from Kevin Smith, Angry Joe, and Andre the Black Nerd:
Rewinding to Avengers, James and Mason talk Endgame in detail on this now-weeks-old episode of The Weekly Planet:
More Endgame content from James and Mason, including Easter Eggs, Deleted Scenes, and time travel talk. PLUS Thanos's dumbest comic book story:
Also, do you want Kevin Smith to repeat the entire plot of Endgame to you in his own words? You're in luck, because that's exactly what he did! Plus, he and Marc Bernardin talk Endgame, Game of Thrones, and the death of John Singleton on Fatman Beyond:
Chris Stuckmann talks spoilers:
Angry Joe's Endgame videos:
And let's close out with Andre's Endgame review:

So... this happened. And they say Twilight didn't feature real vampires. Edward just turned into a bat, didn't he? But personally I'm too pissed about the cancellation of The Tick to give a crap who plays Batman.

Dark Phoenix is apparently godawful.
Sigh.
Anyway, Mr. Sunday and Mason watched The Last Stand!

Dark Phoenix is apparently godawful. Sigh. Ah dammit. I was hoping for a strong sendoff for them. Although I wouldn't be surprised if I liked it more than most. Critics can fall into a rut of genuflecting for MCU releases and ripping other comic movies to shreds. I'll definitely still see it eventually.

Yeah it's getting hit harder than Godzilla. But you know, Glass got slammed too, and I wound up enjoying it quite a bit. I have my tickets for Sunday.
