I'm a long-time Bond fan, and I thought Quantum of Solace was terrible. (Maybe it'll improve on a repeat viewing, but I'm doubtful on that.)
At NetFlix, one can write 200-character-max notes to friends there, so this was my review of QoS with that limitation (I try to have fun when writing these):
"Filmed in confuse-o-vision, bad guys chase Bond. Bond chases bad guys. A girl wears a trenchcoat and then just oil. See "Casino Royale" to make any sense of this - or just watch CR 2x and skip QoS."

Loved "Casino Royale" but "Quantum" is a pointless sequel and completely lacking in the charm that distinguishes the best Bond films ("Dr. No," "Goldfinger," etc).

Watched "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" again quite recently. This one just gets better and better with repeated viewings. Good story (closely tracking Fleming's novel), beautifully photographed and John Barry's best Bond soundtrack imo.
I love the scene where Bond is being chased in the ice skating rink and you see he's tired and afraid. Also the final scene is a heartbreaker.

I bought Quantum on DVD and watched it again tonight.
First, it acts more like an epilog to the previous movie, rather than a stand-alone film.
Second It’s a strange amalgam… You have that Bourne style of course. The bits with Strawberry Fields are classic Connery style Bond, while the relationship stuff is Fleming (Bond starts off very cold in Ian’s Casino, but as the books progress he actually isn’t a womanizer, he has great affection for these ladies and seems more interested in relationships – as read in Diamonds are Forever and OHMSS) so you get that here, Bond’s bitterness over Vesper and the sense that he really cares about Camille.
So interesting mix of Bourne, Connery and Fleming.
What worked best: The scenes with Camille. The sequences with Mathis, Fields and the tribute to Goldfinger (in black gold this time). The “Spy Who Loves Me” like scene at the Opera. Olga Kurylenko, Judi Dench, Felix. The final half is stronger than the first (great ending)
What failed: The hyper, headache inducing, quick edited action in the first act. The theme song – I know it has its fans but White and Keys voices are like oil and water (rather apropos) when they sing together on those “La, Da, Da, Da's” I thought my ear drum would burst, their vocals blend like fingernails down a chalkboard. Ga! I agree with CH, sometimes it sounds like the song might catch fire and be cool, but then circles down the drain. Mathieu Amalric didn’t impress me, I didn't like Bond throwing Mathis’ body in a dumpster
My opinion didn't change much, I thought it was a good, but not great Bond film

Looks like we'll have to wait a while Bond fans. This came from M16.com... Bond 23 Work Starts In Late 201024th October 2009 The 23rd James Bond film (AKA Bond 23) will start production in late 2010, 007 star Daniel Craig told fans Thursday outside the stage door for his Broadway play, "A Steady Rain." "We start end of next year," he said in a video posted to YouTube by a fan. Unlike many media and fan outlets, MI6 stated that Bond 23 would be released in late 2011 before the last outing "Quantum of Solace" was released in theatres. It means a three year gap between films for fans of the series, something which happened once during the Pierce Brosnan era (between "The World Is Not Enough" in 1999 and "Die Another Day" in 2002). The additional year between films should give MGM time to sort out their financial situation. MGM have been struggling to refinance their crippling $3.7b debt. They secured a breather earlier this month with a forbearance agreement with its lenders, winning some breathing room and liquidity as it continues to grapple with looming debt payments. "With the agreement in place, MGM has taken an important first step in ensuring that the company has enhanced financial stability and adequate liquidity to implement its business strategies," the studio said in a statement. The financial uncertainty sparked rumours that 20th Century Fox were ready to buy the rights to market and distribute Bond 23 - but this was quickly denied by both Fox and MGM. An official MGM source also mentioned the studio still owns the Bond property and will announce the release date and distribution strategy in due time. Daniel Craig's revelation this week may have accelerated that announcement. According to trade paper Variety, MGM had no comment about Craig's comment. Bond 23 is being written by regular Bond duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, and "The Queen" and "Frost/Nixon" scribe Peter Morgan. David Arnold will compose the score for his sixth 007 movie. Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have yet to confirm a director

Rumors, rumors... with the studio problems and all it might be a while until we get another Bond. But until then we are getting juicy rumors. Try Rachel Weisz as the Blofeld type head honcho behind Quantum? That would be interesting to say the least. Den of Geek

I can't wait to see her with a shaved head and a scar down her face.

That would be very cute. Someone should Mitchell to photoshop that image.
New rumor. Both Lady Ga Ga and Michael Buble have submitted song demos for theme consideration.
It's being said that the Bond people think that Gag Ga is a great songwriter. Really? I'm not that familiar with her, but from what I've heard and saw on SNL, "great songwriter" isn't the first word that would come to my mind. Guess I'll have to go read some lyrics and educate myself on this Dylan of pop.

Well there was talk of a title "Property of a Lady", they had a director and a rumored femme fatale... now it's all gone in the toilet. All work on Bond 23 has been shut down... Eonline

I'd just like to say that with Bond and The Hobbit shut down... Universal Studios, could you please say: "Hey Guillermo! Come back from New Zealand. Leave that fiasco and make a little movie for us called Hellboy 3" ?
Please?

The Hobbit hasn't been shut down. So far it's only Bond.
Though with MGM collapsing the way they are, if the Hobbit goes next, I wouldn't be surprised.
