For people who don't know what RiffTrax is, please read the latest news on www.mst3kinfo.com/From my point of view (as an avid video-ist), its not going to be hard to take the MP3 track and mux it into the movie so you have Mikes commentary on the DVD so you dont need to play the mp3 and DVD seperately.

The RiffTracks thing looks great, that way Mike (and whoever joins with him) can riff on whatever movie.. and not have to get the rights to it. ...why not just re-start MST3K? For many, many reasons.

The site said that in the future, Mike will have people joining him.
Oh please oh please oh please oh please can we get Trace and Kevin in for just one session?

Well, I think it said that he would likely have people joining him. It seems probable, but we can't say for certain right now. As for Trace, well that's certainly a wet dream of mine but, honestly, I don't see it happening. I'd love to see Joel or Trace or even Frank, but they've moved on and I highly doubt that we'll be seeing them involved with this sort of project again. Here's hoping, of course.

I agree. I think you will more then likely see Kevin and/or Bill join in on this. As from my perspective, this trio seems to still stay in contact with each other.

I wonder how tricky it'll be to synchronize the track with the film that you're watching.

The website says that you follow Mike's instructions on the RiffTrax mp3.
I bet you just start the DVD and get to the main menu, then wait for Mike to tell you to start playing the main movie.
The website even goes on to say that they incorporate the movies chapter points incase you have to stop the movie for whatever reason.

HOLY FREAKING CRAP!!!! I had this exacct idea a whole month ago! With mp3's that is... I was planning to ad lib on Batman but I never went through with it. Now no one will believe me. To be honest I'm pretty mad right now. This compounds on an already crappy day.

To be honest I'm pretty mad right now. This compounds on an already crappy day. There's no reason you can't still do it. I don't think either you or Legend are the first to think of the concept. Go for it. I, myself, have a similar project I'm working on.

The website even goes on to say that they incorporate the movies chapter points incase you have to stop the movie for whatever reason. Also, there's a program out on the net (FREE!!!!) called "Sharecrow" designed specifically for syncing external audio to a DVD. www.sharecrow.net/But as to the subject at hand, here is my thinking. 1) Design a program Like Sharecrow, except that you include provisions for overlaying video as well as audio (This could get pricey, but i think it could be done fairly cheap, as the technology is there). 2) Film the shadorama bits and record the commentary. 3)Charge, say, $20 for the program, and $6.99 per commentary/shadowrama combo. 4) Put it (the shadowrama and audio file) on the net, sell it all using paypal/credit cards. As far as we (the consumer) know, there is no practical difference between the original run and these new episodes. However, as you have no copyrighted material on it, and no need for a DVD pressing or dead tree shipping, you can film episodes for cost of labor (Mike and the Bots/ whatever mads), software, and bandwidth. 5) Profit! (a little) Hell, if you make the files a little bigger, you can even include host segments, and use the Software to play them at the appropriate time (think playlist technology). If you're an unnecessarily clever bastard, you can use the player to include clips of the DVD in them off the DVD (although that's probably pushing it). But Basically, using technology not available when MST3K was on, they can produce the show at very low cost to the consumer and themselves. BBI can essentially stay a tiny company, but produce a show on par (quality wise) with the original. If they drop the host segments, they can probably do it even cheaper. Will this happen? I doubt it. But It's a great idea.
