...why not just re-start MST3K? We've been through this a million times... Wrong... Life moves on...face it.

I made one with RiffTrax built in. But I did it the analog way... Played movie with DVD player...played MP3 track on my laptop...fed Video strait to my capture card...fed both audio tracks to a peice of equipment that mixed the two together...then fed single audio track to capture card. End result is Road House with its original audio and Mikes RiffTrax at the same time. I have a test clip that you can view here. This test clip has been "compressed down" so its easy for download. The orginal is of DVD quality - 720x480, 16:9 widescreen, ac3 audio.

Wow, that DVD cover is awesome. Did you create a DVD with the RiffTrax commentary built in? Yeah I did. So now I can get rid of the original DVD for Roadhouse before anyone sees it!! I bought it used for the RIFFTRAX only. The cover is no big deal (although it took longer to make than I would have liked) I hope they get a better logo for Rifftrax though. I just scanned the original cover and had to remove the standard version logo and recenter the 16x9 and remove the Special Features list since I don't have any of the subtitles or the trailer or anything. I removed the MGM logo across the top and added the rifftrax logo and of course the little Mike from the website as well. I did mine a little different. I used DVDShrink to rip the VOB files to my harddrive and then I used a program MPEG Video Wizard to edit it into one mpg file. I used a mp3 editor to edit out all the instructions from the Rifftrax and then I used MPEG video wizard again to add the extra audio track and to get the sound levels right. Saved it again as a mpg and used Adobe Encore DVD to make the final dvd. --Ian

Yes it is Mike (and possibly other ex MST3K people). They use the name Mal Valour for fun... Where did you learn of this? I'm sorry, but I'm still skeptical.

I think the whole RiffTrax project makes perfect sense. Ingenious idea.

...why not just re-start MST3K? Well, RiffTrax neatly sidesteps the biggest obstacle that MST3K had and still has with releasing movies: You don't have to get the rights to the movie to riff it! If it weren't for that hurdle we would have long since had the $699 full episode set from Rhino!

i just got my copy from riff trax but have yet to listen/ watch since i do not own a copy of road house. man i cant wait for the stares of the people selling me that one if i go brick and mortar. any way could some generous sould start a FAQ about mixing rifftrax audio and video footge. the posts on this thread were helpful but i am a simple man and do not understand the complexities of dvd shrink ( which completely freaked my system out. i had to wipe my hardrive and reinstall windows to get my dvd burner to work with my copy of nero agian) any whoo if anyone has used a different application or the same one the faq and posts would be useful to fools like me. thanks kiddies :-)

I think we could work out a better system for this. Say if people produce a PayPal receipt saying they bought a proper copy of the Riff, one of the more technically minded people on this board could send them the edited-down mp3 of the commentary ready to be fitted into a program like DVD Shrink (which is super-simple to use), and a few instructions. This would involve a tech whizz agreeing to help, of course. I've owned "Road House" for years- trashy good fun entertainment, and has wreslting superstar Terry Funk in it as well And now there's a new version with Kevin Smith commentary?

Its actually a little more complicated to just provide someone with the edited version of the mp3 and then plop it into dvdshrink. You need some higher end software like 'mpeg video wizard' to mix the tracks together.
I know that myself and another member, mrtorso (Ian), have made copies of Road House with the RiffTrax built in (1 DVD with Movie and RiffTrax playing at same time). And I have even thought to myself: "If someone proves to me they bought the RiffTrax and legaly owns a copy of RoadHouse, then I'd be willing to give them my RiffTrax copy of RoadHouse.
I see that there are 2 ways of doing this. Create a Nero image that you download and this will alow you to burn the DVD with your copy of Nero. This would take a long time as the image would be around 4 GB...OR, pay a very small cost to have this DVD sent to you (cover the cost of DVD...like $1, and cost of shipping).
Whats the general concensious??

I think a PM discussion would be fine and mutually beneficial. Yay for Rifftrax, Patrick Swayze, Terry Funk, and the rest of them.

Also (not that I really care) but it does violate the DMCA! Anything that breaks the CSS on a DVD is breaking the law!! It would really suck if I got busted for ripping a Swayze flick! If enough people want a step by step I can put one together. --Ian

Is the Kevin Smith commentary true? I know that on the Clerks X DVD he talks about Roadhouse for about ten minutes during an intro and then jokes that if they are putting out a new version they should get him to do the commentary. A joke or a sly plug?

There really is a Smith/Mosier commentary on the new DVD. Haven't heard it myself, but apparently it is very fun. DVDTalk.com even compared it to MST3K.

Well with the Rifftrax and that it could be worth getting it. I wouldn't ever need to watch Roadhouse with the original sound again!
