Before we compile this I'd like to ask how I can make sure and perfectly clear how to time a rifftrack mp3. How does Mike ensure it?

are you asking how to make a Fan RiffTrax commentary for a movie?
or,
are you asking how to make a RiffTrax DVD with the audio mixed into one?

It's pretty easy to record a timed track along with a film and still get a stand-alone commentary. When I do my stupid little shorts, I use a headset mic. I play the movie on my computer while I record myself. The computer records only the input from the microphone, so I end up with an isolated voice track (so I can fix my myriad mistakes and mumbles).

We're talking about rifftrax for a movie.
Edit: Separate from a movie.

Right. That's what I mean too. I think.
You can record a "rifftrax" for a movie while watching it, and recording only your voice and not the film's soundtrack. Then you can encode that recording as an mp3, and there's your rifftrax. Is that what you're talking about?

Yeah but how does mike let you know when to start the track? and likewise how do we ensure the best chance of sync?

Mike describes exactly when the user should push play. For example, he says "when I say go, pause this track, then play again after the second lion roar in the MGM logo." It's a little clunky, but it works. So in your own rifftrax, you just need to identify something on screen at the very beginning to let the listener know they're on track.

gotcha, our first hopeful will be The Crow: Wicked Prayer. I know most of you probably haven't seen it but I hope rifftrax had you guys get a netflix account or something.

Should I leave the parts that make fun of themselves alone? Cause if either I or Josh do a clunker around that time it takes the sting out of it.

How do you guys do the recording if/when you do it with another person? (My, that sounds dirty.) Somebody liked one that I posted on YouTube and she was interested in helping me with future MSTings, but I'm not sure how that would work. Do you have any experience with that scenario?

We are planning just to record an mp3 using some kind of mic and use our headsets for audio so the movie sound won't mesh with our riffing. All audio of course. He (Josh) uses quicktime broadcaster, audacity, and random other stuff.

Oh, sorry. I should've clarified, I was asking about the best way to do it with someone else who ISN'T in the room recording it with you. The person who wants to do it with me would be doing it over the internet only.
