Swing ParadeCertainly a well disguised Legends Colorized film with the RiffTrax name to increase sales. Not all that funny and I don't think I can bare to watch it again. Very low key. Battlefield EarthJust finished writing "my take" on it. I consider this to be #1 of the 'Holy trinity' of movies to be riffed by rifftrax. Visit my review to find out what the others are... Gotta say I agree %100 percent. It is THE greatest Rifftrax.

I'm getting back on the Rifftrax train.
Last night was "Island of Dr. Moreau".
I'd never seen the movie before, so it was a bit like watching an MST ep for the first time, what with all the multi-tasking, and trying to pay attention to everything.
What a horrible film. Not enjoyable in any way, shape, or form. The riffing was pretty good. I thought Kevin was especially in good form.
But it's very much like the Phantom Rule of MST. One's reaction to the movie may influence one's reaction to the Rifftrax. As such, my favorite Rifftrax so far have been the ones on movies I've enjoyed or have seen before. The Matrix, LOTR, Star Trek, and Star Wars.
Tonight it's Firewall, another film I've never seen.

I agree on the having seen it before part. Not necessarily enjoyed it, but I like to have seen it before. I just watched Cocktail with some friends, and we laughed hard a few times, but overall Mike was letting the movie do its own thing too much. He's done better solo work than this one. I had only seen the movie once before, probably right when it came out, and it was like watching it again for the first time. Still, it got some hard-core laughs from some Rifftrax rookies. That does say something. Thank you 80s movie Rifftrax!

Yeah I can definately understand the new movie thing. Sometimes its just hard to not switch into movie watching mode, "what did he say?" "Who did what?", but then when alternative is to watch the film twice, it's hard to decide!
The most memorable bit from Cocktail for me was probably the Bus Chase intro...
Awww he's chasing Katie Holmes' School bus.
By the power invest in me by L Ron Hubbard I order you to pull over!

Daredevil
Very funny rifftrax and in my top three right now, got to love the Ben Affleck riffs. I loved it when they rip into this film, I say it when it was in the theaters and hated it(though why did Leonard Maltin and Roger Ebert give this 3 stars is beyond belief). Hope they do The Hulk soon. Next is Battlefield Earth.

Point Break
Another Mike-only Rifftrax, and I think it might have suffered for it. Disembaudio really needed to shut up and just give me the synch points. We were struggling with the timing due, I think, to the group-listening system we were using (a burned CD playing on a little boom box MP3 player that skipped every now and then). Regardless, it's two hours long and Mike needed someone else to carry some of the load.
Still, there were good lines. But if you're going to go with the 80s flicks or Mike-only efforts, I'd check out Road House, Crossroads or even Top Gun in a second before this or Cocktail. In fact, I haven't seen Battlefield Earth, but Road House has got to be close to the pinnacle of Rifftrax.

I haven't seen Battlefield Earth, but Road House has got to be close to the pinacle of Rifftrax. Road House was my fav until I watched DareDevil and B.E. You are in for a real treat.

Firewall.
I thought it was great. Definitely better than "The Island of Dr. Moreau."
Now to take the plunge on Battlefield Earth.

Had to check out Troll 2 the second it became available, and boy did it not disappoint. Lowtax did fine, and after 5 minutes he sounded like he'd been doing it for years. But more importantly, the actual quality of the riffing I thought was top notch. This may have been the most MST-like Riff Trax I've seen so far. It probably had to do with the fact that the content was a z-grade horror movie rather than an all-star blockbuster.
I'd go so far to say that this is my personal favorite that I've seen (although I admit I still have a large backlog to go through), with Star Trek V in a close second.
There was no self-referencing to what a bad movie it was and how horrible it was they were watching it, which I find to be a very tired and played-out gag that they do in almost every RT I've seen. They took the film for what it was and simply tore into it non-stop.
All in all, fantastic. I hope Mike and friends do more low-budget crapfests in the future, even if it makes it slightly more difficult to track some of these flicks down.

Had to check out Troll 2 the second it became available, and boy did it not disappoint. I am really looking forward to this one. It's going to be a little while, as I have to rent the thing online. I'm going to have to make it part of my next batch.

Island of Dr Moreau - Another solid effort by Mike and Kevin. I like them best when the movie is bad and this is one bad movie. B+

Phantom Menace -
Now, my caveat here is that I had a lot of problems with my MP3 player. It kept turning itself off, and when I replaced the battery finally, it lost my place and so I had to fast forward to where I left off. Then I found out it would only fast forward up to 1 hour, then move on to the next track. (It's a cheap piece of .....). So my viewing was both interrupted and frustrated. Overall, I enjoyed the commentary. It wasn't gut-bustingly funny, but my technical difficulties probably caused a reduction in enjoyment.

After an incredibly long time without Rifftrax, I found myself with a few extra bucks. I picked up the LotR rifftrax.
I liked it, most of the way through. A little dull between Frodo's awakening in Rivendale to the start of the second part of the commentary (plus it took me forever to actually track down a Theatrical Release...why not go all out for the special edition?!), but everything else was crisp and funny, pretty much all the way through.

Cocktail
A little sparser with the riffs than the others I've watched but funny never the less and Disembaudio only interupts once with a cheap but funny joke. The movie was a bit slow which may have contributed to the fact that this was my least favourite one so far, but still enjoyable enough with all the Tom's bad acting and scientology jokes. I thought Mike was spot on with his description of Tom and the Australian bloke's relationship, not really a friendship as you or I would view it. Oh and Elizabeth Shue is hot so that's a bonus!
6/10
