It just seem like a place where people just complain about movies now. Kinda like the IMDB and its Every movie is the worst attitude. I would hope that MST3K fans would know better. Manos & Monster A Go Go, People.

I spent 20 minutes on the Rifftrax forum during its first week.
I was treated worse in those 20 minutes there than I have ever been treated on this board in 3+ years.
Maybe I got into the wrong topic, and I'm sure lots of those folks are nice enough. But the tone of the place wasn't something I wanted to be a part of.

I've tried getting into it, but it just seems somewhat... dumber than this place. If that's possible. But I kid. It just doesn't seem as interesting there.
How were you treated badly? It didn't strike me as an unfriendly place, when I was there. Of course, I wasn't there long.

I bailed out of it early but I decided not to keep up with Rifftrax anyway.

It was a discussion about the "family friendly" MST vs. the more "rated-R friendly" Rifftrax. I guess admitting that I was surprised to hear Mike use a 4 letter word means I'm pro-censorship and worse than Hitler. (Or at least as bad as Ann Coulter)

I bailed out of it early but I decided not to keep up with Rifftrax anyway. Personally im really starting to think if i should even try to keep up. I mean they come out with one now every week. Witch makes it hard anyway. But also because of the movies they choices. Rifftrax has great potential. But lately they keep going after these half decent movies like X-men, the Matrix, & Lord of the Rings. Why not just go after the worst movies out there. From what im seen and ive seen most of them, Road House and Crossroads are the best and they also so happen to be the worst movies they have done. But Anyways i just getting sick of the lets tear down every movie even if they are good. There even talking about doing Superman the movie. Witch i see as a Classic and is one of my all time favorite movies. The last time they did a movie that i really liked (aka X-men). The Riffing wasnt that good. Anyways the forum & rifftrax was o.k when it first started. But now its starting to tick me off..

I agree. Not to mention Gigli, From Justin to Kelly, Battlefield Earth, Glitter, & any Uwe Boll movie.

I rarely post there but I read some threads now and then to keep up with news and announcements. The folks there are mostly nice but some are very whiny and kind of desperate. It's a socially competitive board, with a lot of mod butt-kissing and passive aggressive insults (the kind that are always followed by the winking smilie). And this isn't really unique to the RiffTrax board, but the members seem shocked whenever they come up against opposing opinions. "You LIKED the Hitchhikers Guide movie? You must die!!"
I don't generally do well on boards. I usually get exasperated and move on. I don't say this flippantly, but this board is full of some of the nicest, most intelligent and funny people I've come across. There's a really nice vibe here. Of course that's to be expected from MST3K fans. And I guess that's why I expected more out of the RT board.

But lately they keep going after these half decent movies like X-men, the Matrix, & Lord of the Rings. Why not just go after the worst movies out there. I can relate to that. Take Matrix for example. I wasn't too fond of this movie when it was first in theaters, but while I was watching the Rifftrax version I was actually getting into it. And the riff-trax cracks were begining to annoy me. It was like having some rude people constantly interupt the movie. My own reaction shamed and suprized me. I never, never had that problem with Mst3k. What kind of Misite was I to be bothered by that? But see, it was a good movie. Even Mike and Joel agreed to that. They need to stick with the stinkers like 'Island of Dr. Moreu' or whatever his name is. I just ordered the DVD in the mail. Can't wait to see it. As for the Riff-trax board? They were alright. They didn't strike me as particularly mean or particularly nice. Not as commited to Rifftrax as we are to Mst3k. They haven't gone through the experience of watching a show for years that few understood, falling in love with it, and then fighting the tyranny of Comedy Central and Sci-Fi executives to keep the show on. They haven't seen the blood shed of the Joel vs. Mike wars and then the feeling of conquest as we realize we could still watch those shows from traders. In other words they aren't Misites. Someone can start humming the "We shall Overcome" theme now.

Witch makes it hard anyway. But also because of the movies they choices. It seems like there has been a pretty even balance between movies that are considered "Good" and the stinkers. Heck, I think it's even skewed towards the stinkers, esp with Dr. Moreau and Firewall coming out (to add to Road House, Crossroads, Cocktail, Top Gun, XXX, Phantom Menace, The Grudge, Star Trek V and Point Break.) Wow, just listing all those makes you realize that it's DEFINTELY top heavy on the terrible movies! The best thing about RiffTrax is that you don't have to "Keep up". You can pick and choose what you want to watch and when. Right now I feel like they're still building their library so that there will be "Something for everyone" on the site. More RiffTrax more frequently is no reason to get discouraged, in this fan's opinion.

I think that one of the differences with the Rifftrax board is that at least some of the posters there seem to be writing as if they expect that there's a good chance that Mike is reading what they say. And maybe that's true, I dunno. But it seems to bring the inner child in some to the forefront. Also, the place at times seems to be a bit, well, clique-y (yeah, I've probably mangled the spelling on that). Folks there don't seem to be out and out evil or anything, I just like the vibe on this board a bit more.

By the way. Most of the people over there are pretty nice. But the constant whiny of all thing Hollywood is just starting to getting on my nerves. I most of the time i stick to Links and stuff. I know most of the movies they have done have been bad. Maybe i just have to many hang ups. Sorry. Ill stop complaining.
P.s. i liked The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to.

Personally I read the individual RiffTrax'd movie threads myself and follow the contests they have, which are pretty neat of the RiffTrax crew to do, you have to admit. The suggestions/movie debate polls I think people will either participate in if they like arguing or avoid if they don't.

It just seem like a place where people just complain about movies now. Kinda like the IMDB and its Every movie is the worst attitude. I would hope that MST3K fans would know better. I agree with this. While this board, for example, shows that MST3K fans have a specific taste and background knowledge with movies and are capable of independent thought when viewing them, I can't stand it, in my own little pet peeve way, that whenever I come across a MSTed movie on IMDB, people will instantly crap on one just becase the show made fun of it. It's as if Mike, Joel and the crew are the ultimate authority on what makes a movie good or bad. And yet, movies in an little-spoken-about episode ( Phase IV, for example) that already had some sort of pre-MST3K cult appeal rate pretty decently. I'm not the most knowledgable about every single director or actor in existence, I wasn't alive during the magical time of drive-in, midnight TV and exploitation flicks, and I got into the show in the Sci-Fi era, but I can see why some high-brow, hoity-toity, art house mov...I mean, film...types poo-poo MST at the mere mention of it. I've met a couple. Rifftrax is an excellent idea and Mike really has no choice but to pick readily available movies, but the major appeal about the show, for me at least, were the obscure, mom-and-pop video store flicks. RT doesn't do a whole lot for me.
