Which version. Personally I would have a tough time watching this one. I love love the films a just can't see myself laughing at it.

Theatrical version. I know, I loved this movie too...and so did Mike! As he mentions it in his interview on somethingawful.com: www.somethingawful.com/index.php?a=4245I guess he feels this will be controversial but funny.

My first thought is that this is going to be a tough DVD to author. Lots of compression!
But I think it will be great. I'm excited about the contest too.

They said it was theatrical but they also said something about making it usable for a version where the disc had to be flipped. What's that? They're not talking about the extended cut, are they? They confused me with that.

Yeah, it seems to me that they've been riffing on too many generally respected movies recently. With all the turkeys out there, this is the movie they choose? (As I asked in another post, when oh when will Mike tackle Battlefield Earth!)
Maybe they got the wrong message from the popularity of the Star Trek Riff Trax. Not that Star Trek V was anything resembling a good movie, but the sci-fi angle. I don't know ...

They confused me with that. I think they're referring to the new versions that just came out recently that have both the theatrical and extended versions. They require changing discs even for the theatrical cut.

I loved this movie and the whole trilogy. I grew up reading the books, and I thought the films were stellar.
And I'm absolutely THRILLED that Mike & Kevin are going after it. I can't wait.
And just think, when I bought the extended DVDs, I told myself I'd never have a use for the measly theatrical editions.

Kevin's a big Rings nerd, too. It should be fun hearing him do it.
And thanks, Josh. I wasn't aware of the details of the new rereleases.

Really looking forward to this one. I am slooowly working my way through all the rifftrax (only through X-Men) and have enjoyed each one.

one of THREE riffers? does that mean that Mike, Kevin AND Bill or someone else or going to be riffing on it, or are they counting that stupid toaster as a "riffer"?

Yep, I thought I'd never use my theatrical version again either...but here we are!
Mike did say this one was going to be controversial. But you know what?...I've seen this movie about 4 times now, and yes I did like it. But now, I'm going to watch it again with RiffTrax help and I'm going to watch it with a different spin on things and in with a different mindset. I think it will be quite enjoyable.
btw, this will be released on Nov 22...just before the US Thanksgiving.

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but now I wish that Tom Bombadio (or however it is spelt, you know whom I mean) had been in the movie. I'm sure those scenes would have been *prime* riffing material.

This should be fun. I too grew up reading the Hobbit and the Trilogy. I thought the movies were grand and I own the whole set. I remember I laughed myself sick over the Harvard Lampoon's "Bored of the Rings" so I have no trouble whatsoever with someone having a go at this huge sacred cow. If Mike really wants to get controversial he should do Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" I triple dog-dare you!

Wow, pimpin' Disembaudio. In other news, this sounds great to me. The only thing will be sustaining humor through another really long movie. I'll either have to split it up or watch it on a weekend or something.
