Mike (et. al.) really, really needs to do a Planet of the Apes (1968) Rifftrax. I'm sure someone's mentioned this before, but I didn't find it doing a search, so I thought I'd put it out there. It is so ripe for riffing and since they did so many riffs on it during MST3K, it's just a natural choice, I'd think.
Also, I remember one of the MST3K crew (Kevin?) saying that they would have loved to do Starship Troopers if they could use recent (at the time of the interview) blockbusters. This also seems a no-brainer to me. The utter silliness of the whole movie just begs for the Rifftrax treatment.
Any thoughts on the worthiness of these two movies?

Over in the Official RiffTrax Forum, there is a "RiffTrax Playoff" where you can vote for what movie you want to see riffed. Several Heats to go, but one of them is Starship Troopers vs. Godzilla (1998): rifftrax.com/smf/index.php?topic=971.0Check it out and VOTE! p.s. RiffTrax/Legend employees are the admins in the RiffTrax forum and they interact with us *all* the time.

Ooh, I forgot about Godzilla! That would be a great choice, too! Why Toho allowed that blasphemy of the G-Man's good name to see the light of day, I don't know.
I actually have visited the forums over there, but haven't been back in a while. Perhaps I should check it out.

Thanks for the heads up, gammer. I did my patriotic rifftrax duty and voted.

Remember its just a poll run by the members of the forum, this isn't a test by the Rifftrax crew.

I would like to see the 2001 version of Planet of the Apes more then the 1968. Tim Burton's movies are ripe for the riffing and this one is perfect with it's confessing dialogue, Tim Roth's over the top performance and one awful ending. Plus i have a soft spot for the original. Starship Troopers would be perfect.

I love the original, too. While the 2001 version is asking for it, too, I'd just like to see Mike do something a little more retro than he's done up to date (aside from the Legend stuff, that is).

Personally i really would like if mike did some older movies. I mean not every old movie is in the public domain. So its going to be hard for mike to do some of those without making a Rifftrax. I think the oldest movie they have done so far is Holloween. As for them doing Planet of the Apes (1968). I wouldnt mind it. Even if it is one of my favorites Sci-fi movie. But i really think the Tim Burton version has it coming even more then the 68 version. As for Starship Troopers. I wouldnt be surpised if they do that one by the end of the year. I mean that was just a bad bad movie.

P.s. Im i the only one who cant get on the Rifftrax Forum.

Yeah, I think I'd rather see the new Planet of the Apes riffed off too, as opposed to the old one. Actually both are ripe for a good riffing. As for Starship Troopers, I have the same problem with that movie as I do with Hobgoblins. Both seem to be intentionally bad. That ruins a lot of the fun for me. I've only seen bit's and pieces of this giant bug movie, but it seems to be a little too campy for my taste. At least Ed Wood did the best he could.

Starship Troopers is a good film. It's not bad, intentionally or otherwise. Plenty of action, laughs, a nice subtle anti-war message and Dina Meyer. Oh yes.

"Iguano-zilla" is my choice. Being an old Godzilla fan, I have a hard time with any sequel that disrespects the traditions of a long standing franchise with a firm fan base. You are just begging for disaster! I hope they Rip that movie 'til it bleeds!!!

If you want to see Heinlein's story done really well, you should check out the CGI animated series that ran a few years ago. Now, that really did the story justice. I've only seen parts of the movie, but it doesn't seem to be quite my cup of tea.

You are just begging for disaster! I hope they Rip that movie 'til it bleeds!!! Yeah, that's definitely a deserving movie. As you might already know if you're a fan of Godzilla, in the last movie (Final Wars), the monster from that movie (G '98) is referred to as "Zilla", supposedly in reference to someone at Toho remarking that they took the god out of Godzilla. As for Starship Troopers, I kinda like the campy feel, I just would like to see what Mike (and whoever else would like to join in) could do with it.
