I must confess there are a few movies Mike has chosen to Riff that are just flat unwatchable for me. I am not dissing Mike or Kevin's ability to make with the quips. It's just the movie itself is so unwatchable or unbearable that even with the Rifftrax I have caved in and turned it off. I do give each and every Rifftrax a try, because I am a "completist" but there are some that even Rifftrax can't make watchable for me.
I will probably never see all of "Cocktail" nor "Firewall" for reasons that are pretty much personal. I know that there are many out there that will disagree with my choices here, but for me these movies totally suck and I can't watch them.
Anyone else feel the same way about some of the movie choices?

Anyone else feel the same way about some of the movie choices? Is there a reason other than "they suck"? Firewall's a pretty fun film with the riffing on it. The only one so far I was unable to finish was "xXx" because it's a sucky film with not-all-that-hilarious riffing.

The only RiffTrax I will probably not re-watch is The Grudge and 5th Element.
I found both of those to be not very funny. As for the rest, I could re-watch a second or third time.
I thought you were going to say that you couldn't re watch Crossroads. Allot of people have a hard time with this movie, but the rifftrax on this one is one of the funniest.

My plan is to watch every rifftrax release, regardless of the movie they riff. It has certainly taken me to movies I would never have watched otherwise but maybe that isn't such a bad thing. I now eagerly await the next Brittany Spears feature!

As I said, what I find horrible can certainly be another persons greatest Riff of all time. It's all purely subjective to your taste.
"They suck, " is just a generic way of my saying I didn't care for the movie. I didn't think anyone would be interested as to why I didn't like the movie, but OK, I'll fess up.
I am a proponent of the Phantom Engineer theorem that "Your enjoyment of an episode is directly linked to your enjoyment of the movie." If I really, really don't like the movie, no amount of riffing is going to make it watchable for me.
For "Cocktail" the main problems I had with it were extremely unlikable characters and a boring, predictable plot. I hated "Firewall" because I work in a bank doing security and watching a movie about it is not entertainment as far as I'm concerned. I also don't care for the thriller genre along with Harrison Ford being horribly miscast in the role. I don't dislike him so much that I enjoy watching him make an utter fool of himself.
This is just me, so if you like these films and riffing, fine. I'm only speaking for myself.
(P.S. I actually found Crossroads watchable for some weird reason. I'll probably watch it again sometime.)

Hey ...I liked Firewall! That's my favorite one next to the Star Trek Riff-Trax. Anyway the only Riff-trax I found unwatchable was The Matrix, and that was for the opposite reason. The movie was too good for me to enjoy the riffing. (my opinion.) I found myself wanting to shout at Mike and Kevin. 'Hey, I'm trying to watch the movie here! Please hush-up or I'll get the manager.' I never had that problem with a Mst3k episode.

I never had that problem with a Mst3k episode. I am really speaking heresy now. About 1/4 of the entire 10 season run of MST3K I've found unwatchable and unfunny. Either the movie was uninteresting or the riffing was sub-par (sometimes both). I have changed my mind on a couple of previously "meh"ed episodes, but for the most part the "unwatchable quarter" have remained one time viewings or never completed viewings.

I don't think it's that heretical. I would say the same for me. I've only seen around 65% of the series, but I would say that somewhere between 10-15% of those are episodes I didn't really care for and/or will have a hard time watching again. On rare occasions, it's the movie's fault. Often, it's just because the riffing isn't that funny. The Joel episodes and the Sci-Fi episodes tend to fall prey to that the most. I don't think that's a bad ratio, though. Sticking to the thread, I won't watch horror movies or anything with any degree of graphic violence. But only because my tolerance levels for both are quite low.

I know I'll watch every RiffTrax regardless of the movie, but just like the original series there are some I'll enjoy more than others. With that said there isn't one yet that I'd say I won't watch again. I took time over the holidays to rewatch a few (Roadhouse, Star Trek V and Phantom Menace).

Well ...to be one hundred percent honest with you, I didn't find every single episode of Mst3k watchable either. Not because the movie was too good, (I can't even imagine that scernario) but for other vauge messy reasons. Somebody would have to put a gun to my head to make me watch Monster A go go, that Giant Praying Mantis movie (can't think of the title now) or Invasion of the Neptune Men again. Especially Invasion of the Neptune Men. P.S. I thought the Riff-traxed Cocktails sucked too

that Giant Praying Mantis movie (can't think of the title now) 517 - Beginning of the End - "Hi I'm Peter Graves..." Yeah that one was hard. I'm in the process of watching every MST ep in a row. Some will be easier to re-watch in the future. Others wont. As far as RiffTrax are concerned, some are only a one time viewing...5th Element, Grudge...the bulk of them are a two time viewing. But the odd one I could watch several times. I think I watched Road House 4 or 5 times now. But like "most" things, it gets better with age. After a year or so, I might get nostalgic and re-watch some of those 'two viewing' trax again. We'll see...

Well I've always said that I'm in it for the laughs. The movies rarely have an effect on me - BUUUT, Cocktail was very painful. Cripes I hated that flick and the characters were all jackasses.
Still, I laughed my ass off and that's all that matters. Make me howl and I can put up with most anything. Cocktail, Monster A Go Go... just make me wet 'em with laughter is all I require.

I think it's an interesting concept, and beats the hell out of paying royalties to riff on the film. The companies will love it, because the bad fillms will be bought up by those crazy freakin' MST3K fans. NOW we know what the hippies have evolved into, Fred! Oh, sorry, Dr. Z. I digress as usual.
Because I have no desire to go buy copies of the films they're doing. So I probably won't see any of them.

that Giant Praying Mantis movie (can't think of the title now) 517 - Beginning of the End - "Hi I'm Peter Graves..." No, she's talking about "The Deadly Mantis," episode 804. "Beginning" was the giant grasshopper movie.

And "Beginning..." was a stone cold classic...well, I loved it.
I'm with you, Dr.Z- the duller a movie, the more difficult it'll be for Mike to get any mileage out of it. I just found "Firewall" to be silly trash like a bunch of other movies with similar plots, but I totally understand you not liking it.
