The Passion of the Christ -- The ULTIMATE in preaching to the choir. This one could be priced at $4.49, with $.50 of each purchase being donated to The Anti-Defamation League. Given Mike's personal religious convictions, it's a safe bet that this will never happen. Just go rent Life of Brian and call it even. I watched it the other night and laughed my appendix out. But I'm with you on Highlander 2. That would be great.

My partner's parents are both BIG catholics who have no interest in seeing a religious snuff film.

And whether he liked it or not, his convictions seem deep enough that he probably wouldn't mock a depiction of the torturous death of the man he believes to be his savior. Maybe.

But I think it's a safe bet that Mike wouldn't be comfortable riffing it. Not to mention the potential controversy. Could you imagine a Rifftrax for Schindler's List? Me neither.

I know Mike did really like the film right off, but I seem to remember reading on his myspace blog that he thinks he may have bought into the hype a bit too much after further reflection. Still, I just can't see it being that much fun to watch, what with the subtitles and all. I certainly don't think it's untouchable, but it would be darn tough to make it enjoyable.

Schindler's List deeply affects people from all ethnic and religious groups (even atheists like me), and all walks of life. Passion, on the other hand is, from all indications, a very profound experience for some christians, and a complete yawn for everyone else.

To everyone else, it's just an ancient-times torture flick. For a lot of people, it's just plain disturbing, or at least it should be. And when I think about it, there's really not a whole lot to riff, considering how much of the film is relentless graphic violence and, as was mentioned, the dialogue being in another language. It just wouldn't work, setting aside the Christian aspects. Personally, I've seen it once and I don't care to see it again.

Mr A, loved your rant on Gump, good stuff. gbeenie, given your hatred of the Passion, I think you might want to considering flying to california so you can go demand your 10 dollars back from Mel Gibson. I'm sure you can get Butters to go with you. Howard the Duck, I too loved that as a kid and would love to see it riffed! Personally I still think the best movies for this kind of treatment are ones that are bad in a cheesy sense, regardless of how seriously the movie takes itself. Plus there has to be some sort of action in it, or its just too boring - I'd love to see poor award winning movies like Shine or The English Patient be mocked to no end, but the movie below the riffing would just be too painfully boring. Gump would be an exception as a poor award winner tho since there's at least some stuff going on in the movie So would Titanic, just cuz it was such a phenomenon when it came out. Otherwise, bring on the truly cheesy stuff! I'd love to see some movies like Anaconda, Starship Troopers, and Eight Legged Freaks (you know, in the vein of troll 2 ). Hm, Starship Troopers rifftrax....I'm getting excited just thinking about it

I would LOVE to see 70's TV movies Rifftraxed.
Problem is the availability of titles on DVD, I realize.
Who knows?
The cheaper is becomes to produce discs, the more titles we'll see.

I've heard rumblings about possibly riffing some TV stuff...
So, tonight, I watched an episode of the anthology series Masters of Horror on Showtime (On Demand). Sweet Xenu, was it AWFUL (the episode was "The Washingtonians"). Every single ounce of "menace" the oh-so-evil characters tried to project was broadcast out a thousand yards ahead of them. Virtually every attempt at cheap scares and horror cliche imaginable was on display. I HAD to make fun of it, if only to preserve my sanity (and the goddamn episodes are an hour long). Anyhoo, given that several of the episodes are available on DVD (albeit ones made by more prestigious horror figures than the director of tonight's hunk of limburger), it occurs to me that this might be a good choice for some smaller-scale RiffTrax efforts.
So, whaddaya think, sirs?

I'd have to second the desire to watch a Rifftrax for something from Masters of Horror. I've seen a couple of episodes, and there was only one of them that I really enjoyed. (I forget the name of the episode, but the premise is basically "hitchhiker who kills everybody who picks him up meets a guy who kills every hitchhiker he picks up, and hilarity ensues.") The others enduced a whole mess of eye-rolling or bored me to tears. Or weirded me out, but that was because I walked out midway through one and came back to Meatloaf tearing off his own skin. Ewws.

I think we should have a word filter to replace all mention of the word "God" with "Xenu" What about "Porky's"? The new edition's just come out so people can get hold of it easily, and it is absolutely terrible. Also, the inspiration for my sig pic, "Roller Blade Seven". Pretentious, utterly, mind-buggeringly confusing and really really bad. It's for those people who thought "Troll 2" was too mainstream

Wow, Mortimer, I just looked at the Amazon entry for this movie and just from the cast, this looks like a B-Movie nightmare. It's got Frank Stallone and Joe Estevez! Yikes! And check out this description! "In a futuristic society, a sword-wielding roller skater fights evil ninjas, punk roller skaters and is sent on an important rescue mission." Double yikes!
Too bad it looks to be extremely rare! There's one DVD (region 2!) and one VHS listed on Amazon, both at $300!

An MSTie might trade you a DVD dubbed from an original VHS if you ask nicely
