I've definitely heard that opinion, but a large majority of the people I've heard have really liked it. I don't know, I guess it could be closer to a Bourne movie, but it was such a breath of fresh air after the recent Bond films.

K, I watched it without RiffTrax. I think if you go into it expecting it to be like other Bond films, then you'll be disappointed. But if you have an open mind, then it is a breath of fresh air. I didn't mind the new physical appearance of Bond and I liked his style. I also liked the style of the movie. However, I still think they could have incorporated a bit of the old Bond just for fun. I was disappointed there was no Q-branch in this one or cool gadgets. I think they could have added some of those older Bond idea's so this movie keeps its Bond "character"/inner charm.

Truthfully I don't understand this one. If they wanted to riff a Bond movie why not Die Another Day. View To A Kill, or Moonraker why one of the best of the series. I'm thinking the same thing. Just, huh? Riffing a decent movie that was out in theaters 6 months ago, from a franchise that has offered up much bigger gobs of cheese in the past? I won't be watching this one any time soon. Just doesn't feel right.

I have no problem with them doing a recent release, but the movie doesn't strike me as having the right feel. We'll see, I guess.

Ugh, well this is going to be fun. There are 4 different cuts of CR, pretty much anyone not in the US is screwed.

Casino Royale is quite riffable, and even better, it's available in time for the weekend!
I'm curious, what about the fact that it is a new DVD release doesn't sit well with people?

I don't usually bother watching RiffTrax movies I'm unfamiliar with before listening to the track. In this case, I did. It's very good. Not great, but well done and surprisingly engaging. Still, I think there's plenty of room for riffing. (Though I'm not particularly excited about watching all 145 minutes of it again so soon.)

I thought it was great, but they've done decent to great movies in the past. This isn't MST folks, I don't know why we still express surprise when they pick a top level flick. They did LOTR, they picked on the first Halloween, even though any of the sequels were much, much worse. They riffed on a beloved (for some) classic with Willy Wonka. This is Rifftrax folks, this is what they do. Also, availability is a BIG factor. There are only a handful of Bond flicks readily available as single releases. The rest are all in expensive box sets and these aren't easily found on rental shelves (In my recent Bond marathon, I only found a couple of the box set releases available for rental) And I don't have a problem with them doing brand new stuff. Heck, I hope they go after Ghost Rider the day its released BTW, they probably will be getting to Q branch soon. This was James, the rough early years and as the movie progressed they introduced some of the Bond style and character we are familiar with (Which for a 007 fan was a lot of fun. Seeing how he acquired the clothing style, the Aston Martin, and at the end, when he says his signature, "Bond, James Bond", line) The next flick will likely see more of that development, which I hope includes Q.

I agree with absolutely everything Mighty Jack said, regarding RiffTrax and Casino Royale.
RiffTrax is not MST3K and is not meant to me, but it's pretty darn entertaining in it's own right and I've enjoyed each one so far.
Casino Royale is supposed to take us back to when Bond was first getting started, so he was still developing his style. The presence of Judi Dench as M is a little odd instead of Bernard Lee (but since Lee died years ago I guess that couldn't really be helped). As far as Q, I don't remember exactly, but wasn't he introduced to Bond in Dr No (under a different name as I recall).

God, what a long, drawn out movie! The cell phones! The text messaging! The most boring poker game in history! Casino Royale doesn't show up until about half way through the movie. One thing I noticed is there was a distinct lack of humor and fun in this particular Bond movie. Too much lantern jaw grimness( and that's just the women!) The movie should have ended with the hospital garden scene, but it went on, and on, and on, and on. I didn't watch the last 20 minutes or so. I'd had my fill of railing kill scenes and body slams at that point and just wanted it to END! I did think that Mike and Kevin did a fine job with this one. There were many LOL riffs and remember, everything that Bond touches costs $11,000.
