There are a few that come close (none have matched MST special blend of comedy and skits) I watched SCCTM back to back and other than the skits, the CT version made me laugh harder. But for the most part I agree. MST was something special.
Anyhoo, I tried to finish with HAD but was so board with it -yet still in the mood to revisited the Crew- I turned it off and threw in
Killers From Space This, with “Marathon” are the Film Crews strongest releases (for me). The film is dry, but 5 minutes in I’d already laughed more heartily than I did the entire 40 minutes I spent with HAD. Bill’s Christopher Walken was a kick for example.
There were dead zone and I do think they missed a few prime targets, I expected more from them during the ‘watching an atomic explosion from a window’ scene, and from Peter wandering past the giant bugs (come on, not one Bert I callback?) So, not the trios best effort, but it had plenty of funny, especially when Graves is parking/running at Electric co. and the sex scene.

Me, I really like Film Crew and I can watch those DVDs right alongside MST3K easily. That’s less true for Cinematic Titanic and the Rifftrax films (not including the shorts volumes, which are great). Both of those projects just feel…I don’t know, a little lazier somehow, less inspired. The range of joke types seems reduced somehow and there are quite a few drab stretches which I suspect would have been filled with great riffs fifteen years ago. It’d be going too far to say they’ve lost it or anything, but they don’t feel quite as pitch-perfect and sharp as they once did.

Just watched… Via Shout Factory's YouTube channel - Hollywood After Dark and Killers From Space.
Well, if you pine for the commercial breaks from MST broadcasts, try watching these on-line. Each feature includes at least five 30-second commercial breaks coming in the middle of scenes or host segments. I rented these from Netflix awhile back so I'd seen them before and decided then that they weren't worth buying. And after re-watching these two, I stand by my decision.
Killers is clearly superior, but is still somewhat lacking. This should have been done by MST in its heyday, as it's so typical of the cold-war/alien invasion genres and is so ineptly made. Certainly Peter Graves most embarrassing film.
Hollywood is far worse. Unsuitable for TV broadcast, it succeeds in making strippers look unappealing. A very dark, joyless film. I can't fathom what the producers were going for when they made this movie.
MK&B do a fine job riffing this dreck, but there's a "been there, done that" quality to these which makes me glad they moved on to Rifftrax and tackling more colorful, recent Hollywood schlock that is just as shallow, but easier on the eyes, and seems more culturally relevant.

Killers from Space - (Film Crew)
Didn't really know where to put this. I mean, its not Rifftrax... but its close enough.
I have all the Film Crew DVDs and I've only watched them once, which was when I originally got them, right after they were released. So, this viewing was very fresh and new... almost like seeing it for the first time, but not really. Wait... Huh? Well, I guess Foreigner said it best when they sang, "Feels Like The First Time." Foreigner... ick...
This is a delightfully stupid romp! I love all of the episodes that feature Peter Graves, and as you all know, (my God) he is in several. The movie also provides some nice guest appearance from former stars of other MST3k movies--most notably Coleman Francis in a very minor roll! Killers from Space is a bit more static than usual Peter Graves films like It Conquered the World or Beginning of the End, but it is so goofy and still has plenty of fun visuals to provide interest... odd alien costume choices (really? big eyes?), silly effects, and those unnecessary close ups of beefy white men, which are identified as a robichets. The robichet also provides probably one of (if not the) best Film Crew segments that I remember.
The riffing is solid, but also provides enough room for the movie to breath and be wacky on its own. Just really good fun and next time I won't wait over 2 years to revisit it. After the first viewing of all the Film Crew DVDs, I thought this was one of the weakest of the four. That is clearly not the case... Its good silly fun from Peter Graves and the Film Crew. I give it 17.7 stars out of 19.4 stars. N'kay?
The only sad thing about watching these is that there are only 4 of these in existence, and I so wished that this would have been MST3k 2.0. I mean, I like Rifftrax, but this Film Crew concept was a great riffing delivery system and I much prefer the old cheese to the new cheese. Oh well... I'm glad these managed to finally get released to the fans, cause all 4 Film Crew DVDs are good fun.

Somehow I think the skits would have worked better if performed by puppets than middle aged men. Kevin, especially, is made to come off quite goofy. If Servo showed Mike a fantasy land island map, believing it was real, that would seem in character (and make sense--the bots have never left the SOL). From Kevin, however, it feels awkward and silly. I only recently started to watch the Film Crew series and began to read this F C thread. and after watching the lunch break skit from Wild Women, I could not agree more with Strangefates' comments above. Having that skit hosted by Servo with his map pointer would've knocked the laugh factor up dramatically.

I just re-watched Hollywood After Dark in honor of Rue McClanahan's passing. I hadn't watched any of these in a while and I forgot how much I loved them! Too bad this never really got off the ground but thank heaven for all the riffing goodness we do enjoy. =D

I just got these last month and while I was intending to wait to watch them until I have no more electricity, internet, or library, I went ahead and watch GoM last night. I'm not a huge fan of the sword and sandal genre of movie, so I wasn't expecting much. It was fine, though I particularly liked the extras, Mike's ethnic slur apologies and extra's commentary.
Any MST is better than no MST, and I count this as almost-MST. I'm happy I still have three of these and dozens of rifftrax yet to watch.

I've been watching these for the first time in a while. It's a shame it could never have succeeded, because these were a lot of fun. Wongo was probably the best, with a solid entry on the putrid Hollywood After Dark also highlighting. Killers From Space never did much for me, but the series as a whole was a swell investment.

So far, I've only seen Wild Women of Wongo and Hollywood After Dark. WWOW was a lot of fun, just a silly movie and great riffing. Hollywood however, was dreadful. It's so boring, there's no way to make it funny really. But I'm still looking forward to checking out the other episodes.
