I also have only heard good or great things, until some of the posts here.
I am travelling for business right now, but expect to have mine waiting for me around the time I get back home. I can't wait!

Got it, watched it, and loved it despite the negative feeling about it I'd gone home with yesterday from this thread. It was VERY much more like an MST than a Rifftrack, so it was a little bit strange not to have the silhouettes, but I thought the riffing was great and the movie sucked just the way an MST movie should suck (in the vein of the b&w crime-type movies MST used).
I do wish they did more host segments (I thought Bill was freaking hilarious in them) and had a few more chapter breaks during the movie---what are there, four?
And if this hasn't been posted yet: DON'T WATCH THIS WITH YOUR CHILDREN!!! (Unless you're teaching them to strip, I guess.)

I Netflixed it and finished watching it today... I thought it was great. SO close to being MST3k... all we need is our favorite puppet robots! The riffing is great, like an average SciFi Channel-era episode I'd say (plus they get away with jokes they wouldn't have been able to on TV!). The "Host Segments" have their moments, though it's odd seeing everyone just as they are... not with robots, ape/Observer makeup, etc.
Can't wait for KILLERS FROM SPACE...

i wouldn't say i have been biased by either of the two reviews i have read. i actually am anticipating some of what they had put in their reviews both good and bad. but don't hedge until after viewing if its an issue for you skyroniter. man how long had i been calling you skyrocketer. or have i . geesh my memory is out of whack.
i will post my opinions later after my viewing. :-)

Maybe I'm not a fan because I prefer the CC style of riffing over the Sci Fi style (which this heavily resembles).

I prefer the CC style to the Sci-Fi era style as well, but ya know what? It's kinda like sex. When it's good, it's really really good. And when it's bad... it's still pretty damn good I loved it. Oh, and I only paid $11.41 at DeepDiscount.com No shipping either. I don't miss the shadowrama, the bots are gone, that's the past. The best part for me was the horrendousness of the film... something I haven't seen in a long time. And it is terrible... delightfully so.

And when it's bad... it's still pretty damn good If we're using that analogy... It was like the really lousy sex you have with a stranger when you're both drunk but not drunk enough to forget the fact that the sex is lousy. And then you both wake up, look embarrassed and never call back. Note: Analogies expressed in this post may not reflect the poster's own experiences.

OK. I was extremely pleased with "Hollywood Afterdark" i thought it was very funny i would rank it much higher then just funnier then the mst3k hamlet episode. the host segment 's were pretty bad though.
the nudity was pretty extreme. wow OK i know the movie was about an aspiring striper but man that was a lot of striping. probably not a good choice for children under 15. man wow.
yet for a first time out product and with expectations riding high i was pleased. its not the funniest group comedic effort ever but most people should be well pleased with this disc.
i was not upset with the non inclusion of a movie only version. because there is no way i could sit though that with out the jokes.
color me a very happy film crew fan. :-)

There was nudity in the movie? Anyone who wants the UnMSTied version of HOLLYWOOD AFTER DARK can get the Something Weird Video special edition: www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?userid=99365675781502&item_id=1122117I think we're in for a treat with KILLERS FROM SPACE, it's a fun little cheapie and it has Peter Graves in it.

Maybe I'm not a fan because I prefer the CC style of riffing over the Sci Fi style (which this heavily resembles). I was hoping for more of a commentary parody than "MST lite". MST3k has been done and buried and I don't see the need for a lower quality version to replace it.

Ok, so I'v rewatched it a few times and I've softened just a little on my origanal reaction.
Its not all that terrible. The theater portion is like an average SciFi episode (say...Gorgo, Delta Knights, Horrors or Spider Island) its mildy enjoyable but ultimatly forgettable/unquotable.
However, I'm just as adamant as I was before when I said that the host segments are really, really embarrassingly bad.
So, I will be getting the next one in hopes that its a bit better.
(They're in LA, right? Can't they round up Frank, Trace or Joel to help them with the writing/performing? I mean, Mike LIVES with Bridget for crying out loud! Get her involved!)
