Please forgive what must be for the rest of you a stupid question. But I've been gone from the board for a while and I'm trying to catch up on my Rifftrax knowledge. We can erase this thread once I get a good answer.

The Film Crew is basically the name of the newest team-up of Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett. They originally joined together to form a website (which is still up), but now The Film Crew has created a new series of DVD releases of (very) B-movies in which they provide their unique brand of commentary...kind of a new incarnation of MST3K, at least in terms of movie riffs.
Word is, the boys tried to pitch this to Rhino but were declined and the Shout! Factory has picked the series up themselves. There are 4 films already: The Film Crew: Hollywood After Dark The Film Crew: Killers From Space The Film Crew: Wild Women of Wongo The Film Crew: Giant of Marathon (to be released in Oct)
You can get these DVD's directly from the Shout! Factory's website or pretty much any other online store (I got mine from amazon). And more releases will depend on how popular these are...Kevin Murphy recently eluded that sales are going well.

The Film Crew is the name which Kevin, Bill and Mike have been working under for a while, pretty much since MST3K finished, they've done a few things together over the years, including a set of DVDs a few years ago (~2005) for Rhino then Shout!Factory which are just being released now. It doesn't directly have much to do with RiffTrax other than the 3 guys. Kevin (who owns the website) asked Erik from RiffTrax/Legend Films to throw a few banners up on the Film Crew site earlier this year just to get a bit of cross promotion going while the Film Crew was getting some publicity. The Forum has grouped them together because The Film Crew is unlikely to do much more, or at least enough to warrant it's own Forum.

Wild Women of Wongo is currently #1,089 in DVDs and #1 in "Independently Distributed" Comedy DVD sales on Amazon. No idea how that relates to $$$ but sounds pretty good.

The Film Crew has been around for quite a while tho. I mean hasn't it? I swear I remember going to their website at least as far back as late 2004, and I'm thinking it was around a good bit before that, but I'm not positive. I know I didn't hear about it right away when it came about. Actually, mightn't it date back to right after mst3k ended? At any rate, the DVDs being released are new. For ages the Film Crew website was just a site updated twice a year with a few humorous articles and jabs at pop culture. I was always bummed that the guys were technically still together doing something, but what they were doing took about 40 hours a year to do.
-total aside-
I'm glad Giant of Marathon is finally coming out - that one looked the best to me. I havent' watched any of the others in fact; been kinda waiting for this one. Ironic that the order I would have chosen for the episodes to be released in is exactly the opposite of what they chose.
-question, less of an aside-
But, is there any running plotline to the Film Crew releases? Do I need to watch a certain episode first? I assume not since we were all allowed to vote on which episode would be released first, and they were all already finished at that time, but I'm just double checking here.

The DVDs were done years ago, no there is no running story, except the idea behind the riffing being that bob honcho picks the film and tells them to go to it.

The DVDs were probably done a while back, but the website didn't start the online poll regarding which film should be riffed first until earlier this year, I believe. So they probably riffed all 4 selections at the time...but those who voted online picked Hollywood After Dark, so it was released first.
As far as the site, it says at the bottom 2005 as it's original date. Which makes since. That's about the first time I ever saw the site...but it primarily didn't have much content. A few comments here and there about current trends in film and so forth.

They appeared as the Film Crew on the first Stooges in Colour DVD and done some TV appearances I'm sure. Film Crew's been a collective term for them for a while indeed.

Voyeur it's not a guess, they were done years ago, the copyright date on the DVDs themselves is 2005, this project was over before RiffTrax started.

Voyeur it's not a guess, they were done years ago, the copyright date on the DVDs themselves is 2005 Nobody's arguing that, bathtub. I'm just stating there were no official release dates until this year...hence the online poll. Sounds to me like your doubting the future of these DVD releases based in part on how long ago they were made. But one has nothing to do with the other.

Sounds to me like your doubting the future of these DVD releases based in part on how long ago they were made. But one has nothing to do with the other. I hate to admit it, but I sure am doubting it. Rifftrax seems to have become so successful (what're they releasing, like 3 per month?!) that I wonder if it'll be worth it financially to start The Film Crew over. After so much time they'd pretty much have to start from scratch, I'd think. Then again, Film Crew sales seem to be good, so I'm hopeful as well as doubtful. Do you not doubt a little?...

I was directly responding to "The DVDs were probably done a while back", they were. My doubts about any more being produced come directly from my discussions with LF/RT staff before and after the DVDs were released.

There's no "starting over". At least not if you go by some of the discussion from the likes of the boys themselves...including the last interview I've read from Kevin Murphy. Murphy still seems to believe the future of The Film Crew depends on how well they sell. So does the admin guy from the Shout! Factory website's forum.
Sure, they sat on the releases for a while, but every indication (again, from recent interviews) seems to be that they will be ready to riff more B-movies if green-lit by the Shout! Factory.
Do I have some doubt? Not really. I'm realistic about the fact that the series continuing is by no means a given. But I've seen absolutely nothing to give me doubt.

They didn't sit on them, Jim Mallon stepped in, that is why all the Jim angst lately. Plus the situation has changed since then. RiffTrax is in full swing, all 3 guys are involved with that. RiffTrax, a part of Legend Films, who restore old films and produce DVDs, I think people often overlook the significance of this.
